This is so crazy! Kevin Hart went from "that comedian guy" to "that awful homophobic man"! I don't know anything about him and I'm not saying he doesn't deserve the tag but why someone would want to risk their reputation like that! Anyone choose for the work will be morally scrutinized! And probably also the nominees! They are desperate! I think award culture is dying! Now they have to not just nominate politically correct actors and hiring politically correct hosts but also award popular movies to have high ratings and no offend anyone! Also I'm disturbed by people suggesting BC to host it! That's a terrible idea, people!

Who is suggesting BC should host it? I agree, a comedian should host it, not an actor who will undoubtedly be nominated in the future.

Random people on Twitter. They don't even are the usual fan's accounts. Just people! I don't know why! I guess they are suggesting everyone who seems decent enough, without a polemic past as Hart.
A few years ago James Franco and Anna Hathaway hosted it so there is an antecedent but they were hardly criticized at the time and I think that was the reason THR said was making it difficult to find a host. All recent hosts are slightly damaging their public images when accepting the role. Some more than others but it seems no one comes off well. Years ago it was the best thing it could happened to a comedian/late night show host but know no one watch the thing, you are destroyed by TV critics and social media scrutinizes your past, present and future trying to find something objectionable.

I don’t think they dug very far to find Kevin Hart’s offensive material. It was part of his act and he was well-known for it. The Oscars chose him because he’s currently popular, and they wanted to attract a younger audience.
I don’t think he would have been a good host anyway! Oscar hosts have to be well-spoken and articulate, and intelligent enough to think on their feet. That’s why they’ve often had talk-show hosts doing it. And maybe that’s why Benedict’s name has been suggested - he has all the requirements! But I hope he doesn’t do it. Unless they do a British thing where they have Benedict, Tom Hiddleston and Eddie Redmayne hosting all together. That would be amazing!

One of the things the networks push is keeping it moving and not running late. BC would likely go off script and waffle on. It’s never happened before, but they might have start playing music to get the host to stop talking LOL. But seriously, I think the big problem, aside from the fragmentation of media offerings, is that the Academy has no idea what they want the Oscars to be - a prestigious recognition of quality in film? A night to celebrate the industry and pat themselves on the back? A way to build interest/excitement about movies? A must see event that earns high ad revenue? A celebration of pop culture? A schmooze-fest for industry insiders? A night to have fun and mock? An edgy event that gets everyone talking and makes a statement? A middle of the road event that offends no one? Right now it seems like they are trying to do all of that, and are doing it badly. An awards show that’s trying to be the People’s Choice Awards, the Golden Globes and the Independent Spirit Awards is going to be a boring scattershot mess that pleases no one. The Oscars should pick a thing /goal /tone and focus on it.

www.indiewire.com/2019/01/golden-globes-predictions-2019-winners-tv-every-category-1202031622/I don’t know anything about Grant campaigning hard for the award but isn’t it great that meanwhile BC is releasing a very polemic film about an extremely divisive theme on the other side of the world? It’s like he doesn’t have the necessity of being loved by everyone and it’s in a moment of his career in which he dares to take risks! (Nothing against Grant, who I think it’s great and I’m happy for his second chance)

Hugh Grant was everywhere doing interviews for his shows, but I didn’t think of it as campaigning because it was long before nominations were being discussed. If Benedict doesn’t win, then I hope it’s Hugh Grant.

I haven’t put attention but Indiwire and other award-pundit sites do so I guessed they know what it’s happening behind the scenes.
