I was away for a bit with some health issues (cancer and eye sight related) but the worst seems to be over so I thought I would see what's shaking on the board.
Still have to have injections in my left eye (for wet macular degeneration) but for now all is stable.
The cancer - got two rather good sized lumps removed from my back and it was more than a bit painful. But they are healing now and I can think of more pleasant things now. Like looking forward to seeing news about BC's new WWI film and getting updates on the Avengers promo stuff.
😊

Sorry to hear about your health issues!
My sister has been getting those eye injections every month or so for almost two years. I take her to her appointments, and it’s painful enough to watch - I can’t imagine actually having it done to myself! And the injections are ridiculously expensive if you don’t have health insurance, which she doesn’t. She paid out of pocket for the first year, before a pharmacist told her about a government drug plan for those without insurance. She gets both eyes done, but her right eye is in much worse shape than her left.

I am covered by OHIP (but I have benefits as well) because I am a senior, so I won't be paying anything out of pocket for the injections. They aren't without discomfort but you actually don't feel the needle that goes into your eyeball. The freezing is pretty effective. My sister just had similar freezing done for her cataract prep and it turned the whites of her eyes pale green! The freezing I'm getting is supposed to turn my eye orange. Not really looking forward to that.😨

I missed you, Val! I’m glad you’re getting help for those icky issues, and that you’re feeling a little better, perhaps? Get lots of rest - bodies need that when they’re recovering. And apply many, many photos of our dear BC. He’s the best medicine of all. 🤗

Thanks guys!
Today I felt a lot better. Dan has been taking really good care of me (changing my dressings and applying ointments when needed). And I have cut back on my pain killers which is good because it is a sign of progress.
The surgery was really scary especially when I saw how much they cut out of me! But at least he got it all and my bikini days are loooong gone anyway so I don't worry about the scars.😊

My sister is self-employed, so she always pays for her own prescriptions. It hasn’t been too bad until these injections came along. She was going through her savings pretty quickly - each injection cost $1600!
I was constantly ranting that this is Canada and this sort of thing can’t happen here! Then we found out about the Trillium Drug Program. You qualify if your prescriptions exceed a certain percentage of your income, so you could be earning over $100,000 and still qualify for the program. The pharmacist also told my sister to have her doctor write a prescription for her Tylenol, because it, too, is covered. When my sister told the pharmacist that OHIP doesn’t cover Tylenol, she said “This isn’t OHIP”. Since then, we’ve told lots of people about Trillium, and not one person has heard of it. But it’s been a lifesaver, and I’m once again happy to live in Canada!

They were told about the Trillium programme several years ago by their doctor. He has to take over 26 pills a day to handle his cancer but Trillium pays for it all. It's a great lifesaver!
