This article is great and I'm glad someone fina wrote it!
Johansson is probably the most unfairly "canceled" celebrity out there nowadays. Probably in part because she seems to be so confident about herself and for her integrity and sincerity of her opinions but mostly because she is a woman. The article mentions other old cases as Anne Hathaway that was kind of successfully canceled before "canceling" was a thing for being too much nice and saying always the right things! Remember that? Well, I always suspected that her sin was just being a successful young woman. It's valid not to like her but the soci media mobs painted her as a monster just because that!
Of course, Johansson is not really "canceled". She is just too big and successful for the losers that attack her and there is the little problem that there's not logic in the attacks against her to actually influence others to hate her to that degree.
She is racist because she played a robot with an Asian name in some sci-fic movie!;She is transphobic because she wanted to play a trans man in a film instead of hiring someone unknown who is really trans to play the part. Now she isn't playing him and there's not a movie (as Robbie Collin brilliantly explains the problem of representation is structural and attacking the actor doesn't answer the issue. If that were the case we would have now an equally successful Trans star playing the part! Or why not? Playing a cis role! Or that would be cisphobic?);And of course, she is a monster for defending Allen. That's, I guess, the most contentious one but I agree with the text. The case is actually extremely muddy and complex so it's not difficult to see why someone would defend him. Especially, someone close to him. Maybe she is horribly wrong but there's no way to confirm that and there's a (big) possibility that Allen is actually the victim of a false accusation. If that's the case (and I can't be sure of that!), she is actually heroic for stand for her friend in a time in which there aren't grays, everything is black or white.
