I just wanted to express my sympathies to Roverpup & Mllemass and any other “silent” forum members who are Canadian on the dreadful shooting in Nova Scotia. You just don’t expect that sort of thing to happen in Canada so I’m thinking it must be a huge shock for everyone in the country. I was lucky enough to visit Nova Scotia last summer and thought it a beautiful place. So dreadfully sad for this to have happened and for so many families to have been destroyed at a time when they can’t even mourn their loved ones properly because of the the covid19 restrictions.

Although I am lucky not to have been personally touched by this tragic event (Dan does have relatives in Nova Scotia but they all live on Cape Breton Island) I do feel profoundly shaken that such a thing could take place in our country. Such a horrible thing! An anomaly I sincerely hope. And certainly not something easy to handle in the national psyche in addition to making our way through the pandemic.

I’ve been avoiding the news because we keep getting more and more horrible details about the murders, and I start feeling sick just thinking about it. And yesterday the police in my city finally arrested a guy who had been setting fire to businesses downtown in the middle of the night. They were all shut down during the pandemic, so no one was hurt, but still those poor people had their businesses destroyed. The police said that the guy had no connection at all to those businesses, and he had set the fires for “something to do”. What kind of a world are we living in???
