We haven't bought a car in 13 years, so it's a big deal when we finally decided today to get a new car! Next week we are going to make the arrangements to see the dealer (taking covid precautions of course!). I'm so excited! Here's a pix of it Attachment DeletedIt's a Prius (just like our old car). But it's so fancy compared to our old one! It's got a moon roof and a heated steering wheel! And "rain sensitive" wipers (meaning they turn on automatically when it starts to rain). And I know it's got nothing to do with the performance of the car, but I LOVE the "Electric Storm Blue" colour! It's soooooo pretty!

Congratulations! It’s a beautiful colour! I regret buying a white vehicle in 2017 (replacing my 2002 grey car) because it looks like every other white car, and it’s so hard to find in a parking lot! Ha!
A co-worker of mine had a Mercedes back in 1999 that had lots of cool features, including the automatic wipers that started in their own when it rained. It doesn’t seem so futuristic anymore because now my car has it, too.
I have that feature disabled most of the time, though, and you might want to, too. You need to make sure your wipers aren’t frozen to the windshield before turning them on, otherwise they might break. It’s only an issue in the winter, of course. The rest of the year, it’s very handy to have the wipers come on by themselves when it rains!

Oh, yeah, makes total sense to turn it off in the winter! Thanks for the tip!
You made me chuckle when you said that thing about cars in the 1990s having this feature. Every thing is so relative to what you are used to. I remember getting a car that had power windows for the first time and it was looooong after most people had cars with power windows but we had never had one, so it just seemed so luxurious to us. Lol!
Dan and I tend to keep our cars a very long time, so we don't buy cars that often. In 47 years this will only be our 6th car and this is only the third car we've had that wasn't a used car when we got it.
We're so out of it technologically speaking. I was shocked when I asked the dealer what kind of CD player the car had and he said "None"! He said CD players are obsolete in cars nowadays. I'll have to learn all that new fangled stuff with doing it from the internet now I suppose! Yuck! I really like our CD collections!

New car!

The other thing is about the colour... Dan HATES cars and has absolutely NO interest in anything to do with cars, so to him it's up to me totally to handle all car related issues, including purchasing it and maintaining it.
The only thing he cares about is the colour. He insisted that no car we get will ever be white or grey and he only recently acquiesced to considering a black car if there was no other choice.
He likes unusual colours (we've had a grape coloured car as well as a bright green one) or blue cars. My first car (before we were married) was dull mustard yellow (Dan didn't own a car before we got hitched) so that became the "family" car after we married.
When I was looking for a new car this week the one model of the Prius only came in Black, White and Grey, soooo it was immediately a problem. He finally said the Black one would be OK, but then I found I could get this model and it came in this beautiful blue and he was SOLD!
So we are getting a blue car once again but we haven't ever had such a gorgeous blue colour before - most of our blue cars have been more muted in colour.

I will confess that I choose car colors based on dust-hiding ability. The blue is beautiful, though!

The very first car I had was an ugly used beige car. After I started working and saved up for a new car, I chose bright red. It came in other colours, but they were metallic colours and I had read that it was hard to touch up scratches on metallic colours. That was 1988. When that car was 14, I traded it in and bought a new grey (“titanium”) car that had everything - leather seats, CD player that held 6 CDs, automatic everything. I didn’t even own any CDs at the time! And yes, my 2017 car doesn’t have a CD player. The salesman acted like I was asking about an 8-track player when I asked him about it. Ha! My car has loads of features that I’ve never used and probably couldn’t figure out even if I did want to use them. But I can play the songs from my phone and I can make phone calls (from my parked car) without having to take out my phone - so I can do important things!
The reason I ended up with a white car that almost always looks dirty is because the only other colour available at the time was black. Any other colour would have taken months to come in. And I actually wouldn’t have minded black, but it had a black interior, and I didn’t want that. I’m almost always alone when I drive, and I wanted to be able to look into the back seat at night and easily see if anything (or anyone) was there. So the interior is a creamy beige that makes everything easy to see - including stains from dark clothing. But the leather cleaner they gave me is great at cleaning everything so it looks like new.

I loved my first car! It was a 1964 Chrysler New Yorker with a push button tranny, a big old square steering wheel, and an enormous gas tank that cost about $80 to fill up in the late 1970s when I owned it. What a beast! My grandfather had bought it brand new (sold it to me for $1 when he bought a new one) and boy, was it fancy for back in the day! Power everything! It was way too much car for me and I finally had to sell it, but wow how I loved it! 😍 My subsequent cars have been much more modest. I’ve been driving Subarus ever since. I’ve got 18 years on my current one, and 18 years on the one before that. Great little cars - very sturdy and reliable, and the all wheel drive comes in handy in snow. Attachment Deleted

We FINALLY are getting our new car this Friday! I can't believe it has taken since February to get our hands on it. But I am so excited right now I can forgive all the delays!

Wow. That’s a long wait. Glad you’ve finally got it. Happy driving 🙂. A Prius is a Hybrid electric/fuel car isn’t it. I’m due to change my car next year and was delighted to see that there is now a Hybrid version of the model I drive (BMW X1) so I plan to go for that as pure petrol or diesel cars are going to be phased out here.
