I recently discovered that my tv cable service comes with an “on demand” feature. My tv wasn’t working, so the cable company came to replace the cable box a few weeks ago. While the guy was here, he put my tv on a weird channel that I don’t get. But he told me that yes, I do get it! I insisted that I don’t have it and that I’m not interested in paying for extra features. He said that “on demand” isn’t an extra feature and just comes with having the cable box. A couple of days later, I called the cable company and asked about it, and they told me that the feature had never been activated on my tv before - so she activated it for me! I now have more reasons to spend hours sitting in front of the tv, unfortunately. Ha!
I’ve only watched free stuff up to now (I have 6 seasons of The Americans to get through - it’s so good!), but I checked out the films available, and The Mauritanian is there. It costs $9.99, and apparently they add it onto my cable bill. I still have to find out exactly how works - how long I would have to watch a movie or how often it could be watched.
My hope is that The Courier will show up there, too. I don’t see a “coming soon” list, so I’ll just have to wait until the 16th to see if it’s there.

Usually with VOD (at least here in Mexico) , you rent a movie for like a week but once you begin watching it you have one day to finish it. There's a warning before paying for it.
I remember it was something similar with cable years ago.
You can buy them, too but I was disappointed when I read an article saying you don't actually "own" anything digital and they could disappear from your library whenever the real owner decides to retire it from the platform.

I couldn't find anywhere where it told how much The Courier was to rent on the TIFF site. Am I correct in thinking that you sign up for free and then just pay per film the rental cost? Or does signing up for TIFF also cost a fee on top of the rental of the particular film?

Roverpup - I just checked the Cineplex website, and The Mauritanian can be rented there, too, for $9.99. I’m guessing they’ll have The Courier. So it all depends on where you want to spend your money! It says that you need the Cineplex Store app first. And they say that their points can be redeemed/awarded on rentals, just like going to the actual theatre.

I just registered for this. I don’t know if it will work, but I’ll give it a try! It’s April 14 at 5 pm.

Well, that went quick. I tried to register and it said it was closed. Really? I’m sorry! At what point did it tell you it was closed? I just went into it again, and the page asking me to fill in my information still came up. I didn’t go any further, but wouldn’t it tell me registration was closed before that point?
