He was considered the oldest in active actor in Hollywood a few years ago. It’s amazing to think that he debuted in one of the early Hitchcock films in Hollywood!!!

Yes, he was also one of the original actors in Orson Welles’ The Mercury Theatre company in the 1930s! And according to McCarthy he was pretty lucid and told him he was reading 4 books at the same time during one of his visits last year.

He was a great friend of TCM. They had him on whenever they could and he was so kind & funny with great stories of Hollywood & other actors. A very generous man.

I think for actors after certain age, even film critics want to be their friends! He surely met a lot of big filmmakers and stars and it seems he was very generous with his time and according to everyone, very witty.
