OK. I did a thread! Yesterday, Tarantino said something silly then Simu Liu said something even more silly! This time the polemic was around Marvel actors being or not movie stars.
I remember that Scorsese even when he was blunt in his criticism, he explicitly excepted Marvel actors from it (that's another reason why it was classless of some actors, including Liu, to went after him), Tarantino didn't. The Twitter discussion is obviously dumb, I have seen mostly people claiming that BC is an exception and others saying that he isn't a star at all because he doesn't have a billion dollar non-Marvel film on his name (how many old kind stars have it? Those numbers are franchise numbers!) or because he isn't the star in another franchise (Good!)
IMHO old style movie stars does not exist anymore *in general* and I'm glad BC has the liberty that a lot of old kind of movie stars didn't have to do commercial accesible stuff and things like Patrick Melrose and TPOTD at the same time but I also find cool that even Hollywood types being cynical about Marvel identify his movies for him and not for his character. Again, I won't called him a Hollywood star (in the old sense of the word) but he isn't just his Marvel character like Tarantino said about some of his Marvel co-workers. He is "Benedict Cumberbatch"! Lol

Do you have a general rule by page 12 if something doesn’t grab you by the lapels then you say, I don’t need to do this?
Well, it’s more if the subject matter doesn’t interest me. I have weird taste. I was just telling somebody that I’ve never seen a James Bond movie ever in my life. Science fiction also just doesn’t work for me. I’m very specific with what I like so certain movies don’t hold my interest. I’m probably wrong because I’m sure in a lot of respects because they certainly hold an audience’s attention. I saw one Marvel movie with my 16-year-old son and it wasn’t terrible but I just knew that there was no point to seeing another one because they are the same movie. I’d rather watch a football game.
Now, I have to ask what Marvel movie?
[Shyer calls out to his son in the other room.] Hey, Jake, what was the Marvel movie that we saw? [Jake says Doctor Strange.] Yes, the one with Benedict Cumberbatch, it was that one. It’s not a bad movie. [Jake then says, “We saw Guardians of the Galaxy, too.”] Oh, I guess we saw that one, too, and we liked the music. I’ve seen two Marvel movies so I have limited Marvel knowledge.
