Good for Moffat for repeating this.
As long as the horrible TJLCer types keep spewing out the same old crap about them, the BBC, and Sherlock, then I guess M&G can also keep repeating their views too. Tit for tat.
Sounds to me like the makers and actors still love the concept of doing the show, but busy schedules and the horrible treatment of the cast and crew after the last series, probably have impinged on making an effort to juggle things to the "n-th" degree to get it done any time soon. Can't blame them in the least.
I personally loved this last set of episodes. And even though I would eagerly watch additional ones if they were made, I don't feel there necessarily has to be more. I am content with what we already got - four seasons and a special to be treasured as some of the best TV made.
:-))

And they didn't make a snarky remark about S4!

I'm a bad person if I say I'm happy...
By the way, no Golden Globes nominations although interesting enough I don't think they are fans. I think BC and the series were nominated once but that was all! I hoped for him to be a double nominee in 2014-2015 but they just nominated him for TIG in the movies category.

Considering how awful most of S4 has been, and S3 was also disappointing, this is a good thing. I never wanted Sherlock to end after S2 but kinda wish it had.

Not everyone feels that way. I adored season 3, and TLD from season 4 is my fav episode of all time. I wish there was news of a 5th season, even if it’s years away. 😃

If I'm being honest, I do hope they return eventually, after a refreshing break. I wish they could do the whole thing secretly with no pressure or rushing, just keep saying nothing is planned while really taking their time to perfect it. Maybe clear their palates with their Dracula series, or whatever else, in the meantime.

I'm happy Sherlock went on as long as it did, since I for one thought series 4 was an improvement over series 3 - although the Golden Era of Sherlock was definitely S1-2 for me. But I can't really say I'm wistful for series 5, The Final Problem's ending really felt like The End for me, and it seemed to me it was certainly written to possibly be the last episode as well.
Maybe do what many shows have done in recent years some with less success and some with more (The X-Files, Twin Peaks, Arrested Development etc) and come back after many many years.

I will go on record (again) to say that I hope Sherlock goes on forever and ever. And ever.
The difference of opinion about S4 doesn't change the fact that it's still a fabulous show. The "fans" not approving of the storyline wouldn't affect its award potential. The show has always received great reviews from critics. The problem is that many "reviews" are now mostly a collection of Twitter comments, which is really a shame.
And I don't believe that they haven't discussed S5. There was an interview way back, after S3, when SM said that he and MG had an outline of where S4 and S5 would go. So they're lying, but that's ok. They avoid getting pestered by fans that way.
