Fargo never played on tv where I live - at least, not on a channel that I get - so I finally watched it yesterday and today. I loved the movie when it came out and I remember recommending it to everyone I knew (several of whom hated it and were very upset that I'd made them watch it!).
I've only seen S1 so far, but I think it perfectly captures the weird world of the original movie. I love the way it was filmed, and I was grateful that some of the gruesome, bloody scenes were in black and white! Martin Freeman is terrific in it. I remember that some critics dismissed the role as just another nice guy/everyman character he always seems to play, which is unfair. It's a very complicated character, and he was believable playing it.
The dvd also has some behind-the-scenes extras and interviews. I've only watched some of it so far. They asked the actors how they felt when they first heard that they were turning a beloved movie into a tv series. They all said that their first reaction was "Really? Do we really need this? I don't think so", but then they read the script and changed their minds. Martin even said that there was the same reaction when they first did Sherlock, but after reading only the first three pages of a script, he knew that he wanted to do it. I was so pleased that Sherlock was on his mind while he was filming Fargo!
I also bought S2, although I heard that it isn't as good as S1. I hope to watch it next week.
