We were supposed to continue on watching our Emmy noms programmes but ran into downloading problems so we switched gears and started watching the BBC's Dickensian series.
It was interesting but I am not over the moon about it. I love the sets and it is fun to see these well known characters in a very different light but it does take time to sort everything out and so far (we have only watched two episodes) the large size of the ensemble cast does make it harder to get to know any one character well enough to relate to them.
I do like the idea of making the detective Inspector Bucket the lynchpin of the piece so far. Stephen Rea is excellent in the role.
There is a lot of Cumberbatch connection to this series naturally.
First thing I noticed is that Tuppence Middleton plays one of the main characters. She of course was with BC in both TIG and the upcoming TCW.
Peter Firth (plays Jacob Marley) also was in Spooks with BC in the second series of that programme.
Ned Dennehy (plays Scrooge) was in Parade's End.
Karl Johnson (plays Grandfather in the Old Curisoity Shop) has been cast with BC in Hamlet, Third Star, Small Island and Frankenstein.
Anton Lesser (Fagan) was in The Hollow Crown:War of the Roses with BC.
Richard Ridings (Mr. Bumble) was in Amazing Grace.
Adrian Rawlins (Edward Barbary) and Richard Durden (Thomas Gradgrind) both were in the BBC version of Dunkirk with BC.
Richard Cunningham (Rev. Crisparkle) was in Sherlock - Scandal in Belgravia.
And that's all I could find but I am sure I probably missed some connections.
:-))
