Benedict was intense. I feel too stunned to be very articulate.

Yes, I loved it! I don’t have anything negative to say. Maybe that it felt a little rushed like always feel adaptations when you have read the source material but not too much and that’s something considering it was just one hour!
It was amazing and BC was indeed immense.
I’m reading tweets reactions and even with the acclaim I was waiting for a few negatives considering the theme (and the reactions to the wonderful TCIT) but not, it seems everybody loved.
EDITED: Also thanks to Magda for the links. The Radio Time streaming was a disappointment. It didn’t work even with the VPN!

This was friggin amazing! My tummy hurts now and I wanna cry. im gonna watch it again! Yes - all of that and more! My initial reaction is one of awe, breathlessness (for BC's performance) and an aching for my dear fucked up Patrick! Wow! Honestly I think I held my breath the entire hour! Sometimes I was actually shaking - the scene with him hiding under the bed(?) from his father. Have to watch it again to take in everything- so much to digest. Wonderful and in spots, hilarious but with an overarching sadness staining the laughter throughout. Hope everyone is looking forward to next week!! I know I am! :-))

I loved it. I love him. There's really nothing more to say, but I'll think of something!
I was thinking that this novel was the most difficult for me to read because it was so different from the first novel. It wasn't until I read the third that I understood that all five were very different from each other in style and tone. It seems that these episodes will be that way, too, and I can't wait to see the rest!
The way they did the credits was interesting! Every screen was in different colours and fonts. I'm wondering whether the psychedelic style was specific for this episode or whether they'll all be the same.
And the nudity was a surprise!

I’m still trying to figure out how anyone can compare this to Sherlock.

Sherlock is pure pyrotechnics and theatre with very subtle flashes of humanity, of course, But he is not exactly someone real! He is much more bigger than life. This even with the comedy elements felt very real. It’s clear he is playing a real human being here.
Also this is the second production I watch about child sexual abuse starring Hugo Weaving that use Cat Stevens’ Wild Word in the soundtrack. The other was Oranges and Sunshine! How well that song works with the theme! Damn!

I don't know for sure but in that picture of the crew announcing that the had finished the editing of the fifth episode the title card in the photo was the same bright pink as last night's. Now that I have watched it several times I can say how much I love the use of sound in this production. The music used wasn't overdone and the sound effects (like that glorious squeaking sound of Patrick's hand sliding down the wall in that one scene) was so well done! Also some of the framing of the shots were just so gorgeous and symmetrical - so cinematic! Those hallway shots and that one near the beginning with the B/W tiled staircase... just breathtakingly beautiful! So MANY wonderful moments! Even very small things contributed to the entire character arc - like when PM was chasing after Marianne in the street before she got in the cab! The way the camera was positioned and the way he bolted up to her - like a lost puppy looking for someone to rescue him!! Amazing! Just so much to absorb still. Must watch it again! :-))

Well, it was a piece of amazing acting, loved every moment of it. I don't feel it was rushed - one hour of Benedict/Patrick trying to destroy himself in every possible way was quite as much time as needed to drive home the point they are making, IMO, and the pacing of the episode was perfect.
Hugo Weaving is impressive even in these little bits we see him here, next episode will be all his, I suspect. One casting decision which didn't convince me fully was Indira Varma. I usually like her but here, as her "older" version, she left me completely indifferent.
Also, the young Patrick is excellent, but they could have at least give him contact lenses, I think. He has dark hair and a dark complexion and even black eyes. Now, I can accept that his hair would become not so black when adult but please, people don't change the colour of their eyes. Think about young Alan in IMO: he was not really similar to Benedict, but there was a sense of connection which made it believable that it was the same person.

I’m sure it’s not rushed in itself, it’s just that I know the book. That always happens to me with adaptations but still it’s amazing that in this case it’s just one hour long episode and they still were very faithful to the material!!!! I’m sure it will feel different when I watch it again.
The different color of eyes was very noticeable, doesn’t it? Especially because they framed both actors in te same way and from one shot to the other! It seems they went for the talented kid instead of the features.
