I hope he got to keep the envelope that had the winning name. In the pictures, the woman who presented his award is still holding the envelope and card.

I decided to torture myself by reading some Daily Mail comments on the article they posted about Benedict’s win! Other than the one comment about him not taking refugees, the other comments are pretty generic and could have been about any successful famous person. My favourite was something like “You’re an actor. That’s your job. Get over yourself!” Ha! The commenters also didn’t watch the interview clips and only read the quotes, so they thought Benedict was complaining about how hard his job was. But the interviewer had asked him about the hardest part of playing PM. I like they way he has stressed that he hopes he did justice to the role. DM readers hate him because he doesn’t support Brexit and does support helping refugees. Therefore they will never have good word to say about him. The DM comment section is also the place where the septics hang out to try to spread their lunacy to a wider audience so it’s the last place on earth you will find anything positive about BC. Seriously, don’t go there unless you want your blood pressure raised. 😊

And ah, poor Hugh Grant was robbed of the award.

They gave it 5 stars out of 5 when it was released but again, it was by the talented TV critic who doesnt work for them anymore! And who by the way, claimed early this year that PM was still the best thing last year and that The Guardian best of the year list was wrong for putting it on 3th. This guy just likes easy accesible stuff and clearly doesn't know too much about cinematic technique (and the other one is the wife of a Tory who doesn't doubt to defend him when TV shows criticize him even when there is a conflict of interest!)
People who actually watched PM are very happy, tho. There is not really a polemic out there about him not deserving the award. The Hugh Grant cheerleaders are mostly people who didn't even watched PM. Just remember that AVES was very popular and that Grant is being rediscovered by audiences.

If the article is this one: www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2019/may/12/bafta-tv-awards-2019-riddled-with-inexplicable-snubsI didn't see that many HG or AVES supporters. I thought it was flooded by them and I have to go to the last (older posts) to see more than two posts together. There were more posts defending Patrick Melrose as a better show and from men and women. Two of the comments supporting AVES were from hermione00801 who is one of the "sane" BC haters who started hating him since he got engaged. He was the best actor ever and now he's the worst. She says she's over BC but she can't control herself. I saw her on youtube (same name), twitter (artemis0801) and tumblr (firewithfiredeux). She's one of the charmies now and after Tim Chalamet started dating Depp's daughter many of the them got furious because they really thought they have something going on between them and they discovered that Hammer and Chalamet are actors not Elio and Oliver and they think they were deceived by their pr teams because they didn't perceived that Hammer and Chalamet were campaigning for the awards. Lawson was predicting AVES and Hugh Grant but he said anyone between HG and BC could/should win. I don't see how AVES was specially innovative. If a series was innovative was Patrick Melrose. I really liked the comments on Bodyguard because they were mainly about how overrated and bad it was. And the acting wooden. Lawson: I started watching Line of Duty and I didn't find it that terrific. Perhaps it is because I started by the last season.

Yes, a very few people are very pro-HG but they aren't actually too many! Also yes, some have "external" reasons to not like the result. I also saw a fan of the youngest actor, I don't know his name being unhappy on Twitter. She claimed BC won because he is a celebrity but that the kid deserved it! It's kind of normal with fans. And sadly, a lot of people haven't watched PM.
Still, the reactions are overwhelming positive and that not always happens with awards.
