Last night we were watching the final season of Orange is the New Black and in one of the episodes there was a reference to BC. One of the characters (an inmate) was talking about the goings on in the prison and she said "You guys know there's a movement afoot? Oh! Well, I'm very into detective work. Like Sherlock Holmes? Especially when the detective looks like Benedict Cumberbatch. I know some people think he looks part Mongoloid, but I think he's the hottest Holmes since John. Have you even seen the Sherlock Holmes he is in? Oh, he's in all the magazines." Wasn't expecting this reference at all!  I don't know who the "John" reference is though??? Maybe Johnny Lee Miller? But I have never heard him referred to as just "John"  It did add a short note of levity to an otherwise harrowingly grim episode. Anyone else with unexpected references to BC in other TV programmes/films? :-)) |

I first though it was about Holmes, the serial killer (because the only thing I know about OitNB is that is set on a prison). But it was HH Holmes, Henry Howard. If you google "John Holmes" you'll get it. The first one on google is a porn actor. I just saw that Imdb calls him a porn legend. The reference to BC was last year? I remember seeing posts on tumblr. |

This is actually a Sherlock mention rather than a Benedict mention.
On Jeopardy tonight, they had a category about tv nicknames. One of the clues was something like "This character on BBC's Sherlock is sometimes called Mike, and doesn't like it". I was so excited to see Sherlock mentioned that my mind went blank and couldn't come up with the right answer - Mycroft. None of the contestants got it, either.
Coincidentally, in the same Jeopardy episode, there was also a category about newspapers in different countries, and my local paper was one of the clues! The contestant got it right - Canada!

When I used to watch Jeopardy I was always thrilled when anything Cumberbatch or Sherlock used to come up.
Or Canada for that matter!

A Sherlock moment
I was watching Agatha Raisin and the fan in TEH and she played in TLV, and the nurse In TFP, was talking to Agatha about her murder case, saying, Agatha, wasn't a Sherlock. I really like this girl. She played Agatha's best friend. I had never seen this show but It was quirky and I liked it.

Benedict was just in a question on Jeopardy! It was a category about Movie Reviews. The clue was part of the review of Doctor Strange - and the contestant got it right and won $1000 for it.

I just watched The View, and at the end of the show they announced that everyone in the audience was going home with a digital download of Doctor Strange. The audience went nuts (well, they do that anytime they're given something free!). But wouldn't it have been great if they had had someone from the movie on the show to talk about it for a couple of minutes?

I think when I watched Orange Is the New Black I wondered about that but not enough to check it out. OITNB is fantastic. They make lots of references, would love to rewatch it but I've so many shows on my watch list that I'll probably not get to rewatching anything for like the next 5 years. I do remember hearing a few BC references but now that I'm supposed to remember where I of course don't. |

I'm watching Live with Kelly, and guest Caroline Rhea was just on and spoke about how much she loves Benedict Cumberbatch! She said she went to the Doctor Strange premiere and wanted take a photo with Benedict, so she asked someone nearby to take it. It turned out that it was Christian Slater who took the photo - and Christian Slater is co-hosting with Kelly today. She then said that Benedict said to her "Did Christian Slater just take our picture?", so she took a picture of the two of them.
It was so funny! They showed all the photos, and she tried to describe how she was around him - so excited and hardly able to speak. I know the feeling!
I hope they post that clip somewhere later today.
