Huh, interesting. Small amounts, no doubt. Ya couldn’t get much silk from gathering cocoons by hand in the forests, I would think.

Aha - in the second photo, the blonde girl behind Sophie is carrying Sophie’s purse! I recognize it from the tassel, which is similar to the tassel on Benedict’s cane. Is this girl Benedict’s niece? I remember that she was his assistant at some point. Good eye to spot the "accessories carrier"! I don't think it is Emily, BC's niece. I am pretty sure Emily hasn't worked for BC in a couple of years. The way he mentioned her, when he was thanking everyone at his Achievement Award (by saying he loved and missed her) kind of confirmed that to me.

About the silk...
Did some research and "peace silk" is a growing industry. Apparently all sorts of garments are fashioned from it, including full length gowns and even wedding dresses. It is costly however - about double the cost of regular silk (which is already expensive). It's so costly because it takes about 10 days to collect the empty silk cocoons instead of the 15 minutes when done the non-vegan way to collect a comparable amount.
I'll hasten to add that I am in NO way fully knowledgeable about this topic. Veganism as a lifestyle certainly isn't one I would choose! I was just curious to learn about peace silk and it proved to be quite interesting. 😊

Thanks for the info, Val! As a lacemaker, I’m interested in all kinds of fibers. I have some silk cocoons around here somewhere...amazing things.

The article didn’t say that everything he wore was vegan, only that “We also looked at lots of different fabrics, which we were limited with because of his vegan, sustainable stance.” I’m sure they did their best, and their best choice of shirt might have been plain, ordinary silk. I can’t imagine that his socks, underwear, velvet slippers and hat were vegan! I think he already does a lot for the environment by wearing some clothes for decades!

For those interested here’s every outfit from the night. I think BC & Sophie were the most elegant. www.vogue.co.uk/gallery/met-gala-2019-dressesWonder how you get invited. Seems to be more than a few less than A listers there.

I also was wondering how Benedict and Sophie got on a same invitation list as the Kardashians. I was reading that the tickets were $35,000 each, so those celebrities have to be able to afford it. And maybe they have a connection to fashion. Or maybe they’re just people that Anna Wintour likes?

I think the Kardashians looked like a pile of money-grubbing, opportunistic sluts. Apologies to any nice sluts.

Good points! 👍🏼 God, now I realize I sounded like the purity police. 😬

I think the Kardashians looked like a pile of money-grubbing, opportunistic sluts. Apologies to any nice sluts. Ha! The problem with the Kardashians at an event with the theme of Camp is that there was no difference whatsoever between their outfits last night and what they normally wear in public. My sister and I were joking that if they wanted to be truly shocking, the Kardashians should have shown up wearing modest business suits that reveal no skin at all.
