Every movie he does can't be a huge success. Doesn't mean a lot in the overall of his career.
I saw some Haters comparing this flick to The Imitation Game and saying how BIG of a disaster this one was - but then they purposely shit on everything he does because they want him to dump his wife and disown his children. But really I think it may be more comparable to The Fifth Estate. Huge BO and critical flop but his career just marched past it. And personally, regardless of what others thought, I loved his TFE performance and the movie itself.
Every high profile actor has movies that miss the mark. BC is no exception. Doesn't mean it is anything tragic or career ending, just means it's something that didn't work out.
And it's important to also realise that it also doesn't mean that it is a "bad" film necessarily. There are plethora of reasons why any film isn't commercially or critically a hit and not all of them have to do with quality.
One of the most interesting books I ever read on this topic was titled "Produced and Abandoned". It's a remarkably on depth look a films that were dismissed and shunted aside once they were made. The book gives them a much fairer look see and often ends up re-evaluating the merits of these films. It's written by top notch film critics...
"This list comes from a 1990 publication by the National Society of Film Critics who chose films which they believed were "abandoned by the studios and the mass audience. What makes these films hard to market and thus hard for moviegoers to find and adopt is precisely what makes them special." Critics include Roger Ebert, Peter Travers, Richard Schickel, David Ansen, Judith Crist, Owen Gleiberman, Pauline Kael, Kenneth Turan, David Denby, Terrence Rafferty, J. Hoberman, and others.
All but one of the films were released from 1970 through 1989."

I don’t think any of them thought that this would be a blockbuster, but it deserves to be seen. It deserves to be reviewed in its finished form, and it deserves its time in theatres. It sounds like it’s not opening wide this weekend, so I guess a big opening weekend box office isn’t likely or even possible. I just hope it plays here eventually!
Also, don’t underestimate the popularity of Tom Holland, Nicholas Hoult, and Tesla with the young folks out there!

Oh, absolutely! I am a bit crushed personally that it isn't opening wide enough so that we can see it now! I have been looking forward to watching it ever since it was announced. I definitely will be ordering the DVD!
Besides having an opportunity to see BC's performance, I have had a life long fascination with all things Edison since childhood. The city in which I live is directly across the river from Port Huron which is a place that has huge Edison significance. He crossed over into Canada when he was younger many times apparently, so Sarnia was a familiar place to him.
This past summer, my sister, her husband and Dan and I all made a 3 day journey into Michigan and one of the places we visited was the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn. In Greenfield Village Henry Ford, who was a HUGE personal friend of Edison's, recreated Menlo Park by moving EVERYTHING (right down to the actual soil that the buildings stood on!) to Dearborn Michigan. We were in the actual room that is recreated for the movie where Edison did his work. It's an amazing place!
I can't wait to see the movie, but it does look like I will have to wait just a bit longer. But I will see it one way or another! 👍😁 I am determined!

The actors would never be affected by this film. They all have successful career outside it. This is a small project that has everything against it. It's not a huge blockbuster predicted to be big that would lost a lot of money. Anyone rational enough could never blame any of them for its failures. But you have to be very nasty person if you don't feel for Gomez-Rejon. Even if you don't like this movie or his style, it's really sad what happened to him and it was always him the one who has his career on the tightrope.
Days ago, I read a tweet by someone calling it "cynical" the "Director's Cut" tag and there's that Playlist writer that a few times in the past moaned about this film just not disappearing (Maybe she didn't knew all the story behind it. I haven't read any recent comments by her) but in general Americans are being very receptive to the BTS story and the reception has been much more kind than the one it has in the UK.
There's not comparison with Weinstein actual crimes. Of course! But it's nice to see a group of great filmmakers (Scorsese, Schoonmaker, etc.) giving dignity to a film that seemed damned since day 1.
Maybe it's because Gomez-Rejon is a Mexican. And from Laredo! (Very near home!) But I really felt for him!

Even if Benedict weren’t in it, I’d still want to see the movie. I’ve already talked about it before, I know. There is a very close connection between Westinghouse and the city where I live - everyone here knows someone who used to work at the Westinghouse factory! And there are close ties between and between Tesla and this city. And although I’m an hour or so from Niagara Falls and Buffalo, we still consider those cities to be “local”, and they feature in Edison’s story, too. Also, I had no idea that Edison was from West Orange NJ! We have relatives there, and we spent a weekend with them when I was in high school - although all I remember about the trip was the exciting drive from New Jersey to NYC!

Not the greatest interview, but I did like her question about accents! I don’t think Benedict understood the question, though.

I grew up in Ann Arbor, Mich, and we used to go to Dearborn and Greenfield Village quite a bit when I was young. I have distinct memories of the buildings there, packed with all that old dusty, very interesting stuff, and horses and old cars in the streets. Fun stuff for a child. Plus, the area is like a big park and there was picnicking. I think people who used to work in the area would bring their lunches to eat on the lawns. I love period re-enactment villages. Williamsburg is another one of my favorite places. It was wonderful learning about Edison when he was still considered a great man, along with Henry Ford. They were great friends.
There’s an interesting bio of Edison on Amazon Prime right now, if you want to check it out.
I do feel bad for Gomez-Rejon, he put his heart into this movie and it was such a bad luck project. The movie got panned in a few places, and I’m sorry, but I can’t believe it’s that bad or that boring. I’d watch it just for the period stuff alone (costumes, sets), not to mention the stellar cast!

This is one of those interviews where they ask him questions from fans. He didn’t provide any new information, of course!
I think it starts at around 35:00.
