"USS Callister" is because it is based on Star Trek, which has the USS Enterprise. The captain character has an American accent. Haha yeah, I did get that. It's not just the captain though, Christin Milioti (Cole in the episode) and the guy who played Walton are also American as is of course Star Trek. I guess it just struck me. It's not a bad thing though cause the episode was great! Looking forward to seeing more of this show again. I only watch an episode here and there cause it's not exactly a binge-type show hehe. (And yes, unfortunately I find Jon Hamm gross, sorry! I read about the whole hazing thing and after that everything he does just seems creepy to me. I've also never liked Mad Men.) It was a very intelligent episode and true satire Agreed! Daly instantly reminded me of the type of self-declared "nice guy" spending all their time online and resenting not getting the respect from fellow men and admiration from women that they think they deserve. Jesse Plemmons is great. He's very good at playing creepy. He was one of the main characters on the last season of Breaking Bad and was probably the scariest character the show ever had.

I wondered where I recognized him from! He reminds me of Matt Damon. That was a great episode; I just finished it tonight. I loved the ending with the voice of the "King of Space" gamer/trollpartly because it surprised me. I just expected that they would seem to escape into the wormhole and disappear. Only to return to their real lives at work, where they would unknowingly leave DNA-covered coffee cups around for the "captain" to create his world again.
Exactly, we think of computer geeks being gentle and harmless, but some of those 4 Chan, MRA types just sublimate their frustrations and take them out online where they think there will be no consequences. Look at that news story right now, about the online gamer who got into a dispute with another player, and tried to get back at him by calling the police and reporting a shooting at the guy's home address. However the police burst in and shot the other player, expecting a hostage situation. (It turned out to be the wrong address, anyway!) Awful. This was just episode 4, so if the show gets repetitive I'm not that far along, yet.

I've always felt that role-play games were boring. When Dungeons & Dragons was new, a friend of mine invited me to play along with a group of fanatics - and I hated every minute. It was the same for role-play computer games later. I'm someone who loves games, but not those. I do think that something weird happens in your brain when you play any game obsessively.
I think I've mentioned this before, but way back, before Internet, when I bought my very first computer, it came with with a couple of games, including Tetris. I had had the computer a few months before I sat down one day to play it. I eventually got the hang of the game and I got better and better. The game kept track of the top 15 scores, and since I was the only one playing, all the top scores were me. The second day that I sat down to play, I brought my phone closer to me so that I could quickly answer it if it rang. I even practiced hitting the "pause" button so that I'd be ready for any interruption while playing. After the third day playing, I had hit a new record high score and I was determined to get it even higher. But that never happened, because after three days of playing, I started seeing Tetris pieces every time I closed my eyes. At night, my mind played Tetris while I tried to fall asleep. And then I was seeing it while I was driving: my eyes were looking at the road, but in the sky above there were Tetris pieces falling! And even worse - I kept trying to turn and move them! It was pretty scary - what if that was a permanent condition and never went away? But, thankfully, it did eventually stop, and I've never played Tetris again.
My experience has always made me wonder what happens in the minds of people - boys probably - who spend hours at a time playing violent role-play games. If your mind spends that much time trying to rape or kill, it must leave an impression behind when the player is away from the computer. After all, an innocent game like Tetris played with my mind and had me seeing things after only three days!

That’s a common phenomenon, to see little things moving around in front of your eyes after playing computer games. I have a bunch of kingdom building games, and sometimes I see the little people running around. It’s very odd, isn’t it? I hated Tetris for just that reason you described. It’s like becoming aware of the “floaters” in your eyes and then not being able to not see them. 😳

I decided to give Black Mirror another try. I'm relieved that the other episodes aren't as disturbing as that first one! I started with the newest season and then jumped around to catch up on the rest. I'm not quite finished yet, but so far my favourite has been Be Right Back, which I think is from S2. It's incredibly sad, but it seems to be the most believable of the far-fetched ideas in the show.
It's always a nice surprise to see which celebrity is going to show up! One episode had Alice Eve and the guy from Grantchester. Another had Alex Lawther, the boy who played young Alan Turing in The Imitation Game (Poor guy! I want to see something good happen to him some time!) And I just finished an episode that had the actress who played Donovan in Sherlock, the actress who played Benedict's wife in The Child in Time, and Benedict Wong. I also noticed some familiar directors who directed episodes of Sherlock. The British film industry seems to be a very small world!
I've also been watching some old black-and-white episodes of The Twilight Zone. I think the main difference between it and Black Mirror is that The Twilight Zone is a bit more hopeful. A lot of their stories are cautionary tales, with a message of "Watch out, or this is how you'll end up". But many of the Black Mirror episodes are just so bleak, with the message "Too bad, you brought this on yourself".

He deserved it in this one! He was a pedophile! Probably this episode is the most disturbing to me. They made to sympathize with him then they tell his true nature. It was really good, tho! But awfully disturbing!

Of course! I was referring more to the actor. Obviously, he's great at playing anguish, but I'd like to see him playing a part where he can be happy!
I wasn't too crazy about that episode because that storyline has already been done many times. I think that every police drama has done a similar episode, so the ending was fairly predictable. I guess the novelty was the use of technology to communicate.
Now that I've watched all the episodes, my second favourite is Hang the DJ. It has a happy-ish ending that I really liked. I could have done without seeing Metalhead, with those weird metal dogs. And I think Men Against Fire, White Bear and White Christmas could easily have been Twilight Zone episodes.

Of course! I was referring more to the actor. Obviously, he's great at playing anguish, but I'd like to see him playing a part where he can be happy! He's the lead in The End of The Fucking World and is very good in it. The series is good but I didn't like much the actress who plays his partner. He looks like a teenager, she's a bit older. Not the best of the ends for poor Alex character though.

I've been watching Black Mirror more again lately (only have a couple of episodes I haven't seen), but I just watched Nosedive and it's...pretty much the exact same thing as one episode of Community from its season 5. Community has a habit of spoofing other shows and films so I had to go back to check which came first and yep, the Community episode was 2 years earlier! It's just one episode but I find it grating that it's so blatantly copied (of course made more Black Mirror-ish but still.)

The one in which people rates other people like if they were restaurants? That’s disappointing because it was a good episode. One of the less depressing!
