Best time I found to view the Horseshoe Falls is at about 6 am. No teeming hoards of tourists. Just the park maintenance people out watering the gardens. Very peaceful and zen like. And the falls themselves are just astounding at that hour!

Unfortunately we were there at 3pm. Extremely crowded but still spectacular - especially the boat trip right up into the centre of the horseshoe falls. On to Ottawa tomorrow.

What a great time to visit Ottawa! The annual Blues Festival is on. I don't know if you like blues but Buddy Guy is one of the headliners this year and I see Ashley MacIsaac (a highly talented fiddler from Nova Scotia) is also there. We went there one time to see one of our favourite folk bands The Be Good Tanya's and also caught the tail end of the Blue Rodeo gig. An fun thing to do is go to the free light show on Parliament Hill. There are great museums in Ottawa. Our favourite is the Canadian War Museum (naturally because Dan and I are huge history buffs). They have some great original artifacts from WWI including some impressive airplanes.
The Byward Market has some great eating places. If you want to try out innovative fusion Asian food go to Kinki's kitchen lounge. Really fun place. Great sushi!

Thanks RP. Going to visit the House of Commons tomorrow and to see the light show. Also booked a canal trip. Today we had a talk by this guy about the RCMP. V Interesting. He retired last year. Now gives talks on the history of the service.

I’ve only ever been to Ottawa for work - in winter, when the Rideau canal is frozen and people skate on it. It was way too cold for me to ever do it, but it looked gorgeous watching others do it!

Today’s Pic. Changing Guard at the Governor General’s Palace. Canal cruise was lovely - especially as the weather is way too hot for me today. Visited Houses of Parliament & going to see Light Show later. Hadn’t time to go into War Museum but went down to see the Morse Code messages on the roof. Thanks for all your recommendations RP. They’re much appreciated.
