This is really surprising! [ quote]The His Dark Materials actor revealed in a new interview: “As a shorter man, I sometimes get told I’m too short for a role.” He told The Telegraph: “Or even when I get a role, I’m made to feel like, well, of course, we’re going to have to do something about that.” McAvoy, who is 5ft 7in, also said that a person playing his female love interest once questioned if he was the right person for the role “because nobody would believe [he] would be with someone like her.” “That was a kick in the nuts,” he continued. “I was like, ‘All right, now I’ve got to pretend that I really like you for eight more weeks. This is going to be really tough, because you’re so far up yourself.’ It got really interesting, that relationship.”[/quote] www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/james-mcavoy-height-short-his-dark-materials-episode-4-cyrano-de-bergerac-a9214751.htmlI remember until recently it was considered an advantage to be short for movie actors because they are supposedly easily to shoot! True or not, there is indeed a lot of short famous actors from Tom Cruise to Silvester Stallone that it's almost a cliche that actors are always much shorter in real life than how they see on screen.

I wonder which actress he was talking about?
I made that exact point a long time ago: James McAvoy will probably never be cast as a leading man because of his height - which is so unfair. For actors like him and Tom Cruise, it likely didn’t start out as a problem because they were able to play much younger for much longer, so the height could be explained by their age. But even Tom Cruise couldn’t pretend to be a teenager forever, so he does action movies now instead.

I remember years ago, BC mentioning JM as and example of a handsome actor he had worked with (unlike himself.) These poor actors are all so insecure about their looks. Both are great-looking men!

I used to work with a not-very-tall guy who often made short jokes about himself, figuring he would beat others to it. We were discussing Tom Cruise once, and I looked up his height - 5’8”. My co-worker said to take two inches off for his actual height, because most men - especially short men - usually lie about their height by two inches. Ha!

I wish short guys would realize it’s not the height, it’s the personality. Look at Martin Freeman. He’s short and sexy. Or Danny DeVito. 😂🤣😂

TBH I also thought it was mostly his insecurity speaking. I don't doubt in the real world could be traumatic but movie actors tend (at least until recently) being very short.
I don't doubt he has received nasty comments by some co-workers. People aren't nice but it seems incredible that he had lost roles because it when a lot of (famous) actors are equally short.
I remember that quote by BC. He considered McAvoy had the perfect physique to play leading men meanwhile he does not! He thought he would always be the bad guy because his face! So yes, actors can be very insecure about their bodies!
