I just found the job reel of the film lead animator. It doesn’t includes any TPOTD stuff yet but after reading an idiot PETA fan claiming he can’t imagine how they did the horse being beaten scene without mistreating the animal I thought that maybe I should help them to find more “crimes” against innocent creatures and as you can see here, this guy has been involved in the potential mistreatment of other animals and creatures, including trolls and dinosaurs!
Because obviously, there’s not other way than violate animal protection laws and potentially killing your lead actor, right? And yes, I know the latter is not important to them so they can’t even comprehend why BC would never be put in that situation even if the production really disregarded animals like they think they did (which would never happen anyway!). Seriously, what a bunch of stupid people!
EDITED And here is another animator that worked in the film,
Just look that family putting in risk that poor elephant with their car! And the guy playing cards with that bear! I don’t know how he is abusing the poor animal but he surely is cheating or something! And the guy forcing those poor zebras to dance with him! Bastard!

These PETA types are reeeeeeally irritating! They're very sanctimonious and seem to make wild assumptions without any basis in reality.
Do you think they are acting like this in part because BC came out with that quote about not being vegan any longer? They seem particularly peeved that he is no longer the veggie poster boy they tried to make him into, even though he was very moderate in his assessment of his lifestyle change.
Or are they this volatile as a matter of course, just going on half-cocked and spitting lies out in blind rants?
Honestly they just look like morons to most people and probably do more damage to their cause than not.

Plus, that wasn't BC in that scene. It was a stunt double. The neck was way too short to actually be BC and the body shape was not quite right.
I think PETA types just look for anything to bring attention to themselves. So, making claimed against a famous actor (or review bombing his stuff), fits that bill just fine. Sure, they liked him when he was vegan - it got them clicks.
ETA: They and their supporters do some really stupid shit. Like, steal pets and euthanize them. Steal animals and just let them go free. They are not actually ethical. They are nutjobs and assholes.

There was a big story in our local news last year (I think? It’s hard to keeps dates straight anymore!) involving a group of animal rights activists protesting the treatment of animals - particularly pigs - headed for slaughter. It was something they had done during hot weather every year : they would follow the big pig trucks on the road, and whenever the truck stopped, they’d get out, run over to the truck with water bottles to give the pigs to drink. They said that if the poor pigs weren’t hot and thirsty, they wouldn’t drink the water that was offered to them.
I remember seeing those pig trucks on the highway sometimes. The pigs were stacked in crates that had holes at the sides, and sometimes you could see their pink skin pressed against the holes, and sometimes their snouts or curly pink tails sticking out of the holes.
The activists feeding water to the pigs always made the news, and it just never made sense to me for them to keep doing it. The pigs were never spared from slaughter. All they did was prevent the pigs from being used for food. The meat processing company wasn’t able to use the pigs who were fed the water because they had been contaminated. They had no idea what was in the water that the pigs drank. So those pigs were destroyed anyway, but just didn’t end up as somebody’s dinner.
So last year, when the usual protesters were waiting for the pig trucks to arrive at the gates of the meat processing plant, a woman stepped onto the road to physically stop the truck from entering. The truck drivers were used to this and allowed the protesters to have their say before going in. But this particular day, something went wrong. That woman was struck by the truck, and died.
There was a huge investigation into the incident to see whether the truck driver was at fault. The saddest part of the whole thing for me is that the media treated the woman like some kind of hero, and I just don’t get it. She left behind a husband - who was with her that day - as well as small children. How on earth do they explain to those kids that their mommy sacrificed herself for pigs? And the pigs were going to be killed anyway! This year, on the anniversary of the incident, the news interviewed the woman’s husband. He said they’re all so proud of how brave she had been.
A lot of people have rightly pointed out that animal activists should really be protesting outside of restaurants and supermarkets, instead. That’s where people make decisions to purchase and consume meat. But they don’t do that because the activists use those businesses and need them to stay open. But disrupting random truck drivers and the big meat processing companies is ok because they are more impersonal. Or why not go right to the farms who raise the pigs and other animals we eat? Don’t they realize that those farms they pass in the countryside have all those pigs and sheep and chickens and cows for a reason? Those animals aren’t pets!

But I really think PETA has always been about shock value hasn't it? Their own founder once described them as "media sluts".
The people working for better treatment of animals in society are organizations like the SPCA or your local humane society, IMO.
They always been about outreach not outrage. About legislation and education not publicity stunts and celebrity endorsements.
PETA totally lost me when they tried to link drinking milk to causing autism just to promote veganism. They're in the same boat as the anti-vaxxers as far as I am concerned. Scare tactics and bullshit!

They actually are being ignored about this “issue” because those are ridiculous accusation and their only “proof” are the scenes that are in the film! I mean “processed” images which reason of being were to show how cruelty to animals was something that frequently happened in ranches in the 1920s! That’s their “leaked” information: a fictional movie!
It’s just that I’m amazed by their followers claiming things like they can’t imagine how a scene like that could had been made without hurting the horse! Cmon! I bet you would run if you see the train coming to you from a film screen at a a movie theatre!

Can you imagine how they would have reacted if Jane had kept all the other casual animal abuse described in the book in the film! The cowhands shooting magpies for fun, the great, disgusting waste of beef when they slaughtered a cow for meat… I’m surprised they weren’t screaming about Peter’s torture of the rabbits!
