His big flaw, of course, is that he doesn’t go on and on about how hard he works. Bafta ignored him in Sherlock because they thought he was just playing himself. When he talks about how he prepared to play Phil, he’s all excited and makes it sound like it was loads of fun. Because he enjoys what he’s doing and does it so well, he gets dismissed. People seem to prefer rewarding actors who look like they suffered for their roles.

And the 6 films that inspired him! (I’m glad he didn’t mentioned Star Wars nor Indy this time! 😉) This is about The Piano, There is also Kubrick, Malick, Scorsese, PTA but also Bogdanovich and this gem of a story, aframe.oscars.org/what-to-watch/post/benedict-cumberbatch-6-movies-i-cant-stop-thinking-aboutRaimi wanted him to watch Paper Moon for Doctor Strange?! Or it was just a “how it’s possible you haven’t watched this film, dude?!” (After all, Bogdanovich died recently) Also Anderson had watched it before or not? I want to know! Lol EDITED He should watch The Last Picture Show if he haven’t watched it!

Now, I really want to think that Dr. Strange sequel is influenced by Paper Moon! Maybe the relationship between BC and Xóchitl Gómez!

I saw they did one of these with Maggie Gyllenhaal and BC’s list was great but very America and English speaking centric, I thought that maybe she would be more “esoteric” and she is indeed. Slightly! She also went for PTA and Jane Campion plus Mike Nichols but also Lucrecia Martel and my favorite inclusion by her, Kiarostami, aframe.oscars.org/what-to-watch/post/maggie-gyllenhaal-movies-that-inspired-me-to-directIt seems she wasn’t familiar with him, I am but I also just recently discovered this early film and it’s just so beautiful and adorable. I have always found Iranian films extremely endearing and it’s so sad they have to live under such awful dictatorship. EDITED By the way, she is very passionated about these films but BC practically wrote professional depth reviews! Much better than a lot of “critics” out there!
