I was surprised by this very negative review! Lol At least he loved BC but apparently everyone else is bad! I particularly disagree with the idea that there wasn’t chemistry between BC and Ninidze!

Pretentious critics on mainstream media should at least say to their readers when the movies are accesible and easily enjoyed by general audiences.
Benedict Cumberbatch delivers a masterclass in “acting in a vacuum” with this disappointing historical spy drama that fails on almost every level except for the dazzling performance of its leading man (who is also, interestingly, one of the producers). Cumberbatch is Greville Wynne, a real-life British businessman turned MI6 courier who in the 1960s helped to deliver vital Soviet intelligence that ultimately averted war during the Cuban missile crisis.
Great material, obviously; but the director Dominic Cooke (On Chesil Beach) and writer Tom O’Connor (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) have surrounded Wynne with two-dimensional ciphers, including Rachel Brosnahan as Emily, his corny CIA “handler” in London, and Jessie Buckley, wildly miscast under pearls and a fright-wig as his long-suffering wife, Sheila. Wynne’s central relationship with his Soviet counterpart, Oleg (Merab Ninidze), is equally blank and chemistry-free. And so all that’s left is Cumberbatch, centre-frame throughout, showboating to camera as Wynne rises, falls and loses tons of weight. It’s a huge turn, trapped in the wrong film.
