Has anyone else seen this? I saw it on Netflix this past weekend and really enjoyed it ... it was silly, but the music was fun and it was an entertaining diversion that went great with a nice glass or two of wine
It's a story about Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as Icelandic amateur musicians who dream of competing in Eurovision.
It's ridiculous, with a heavy dose of Will Ferrell doing what Will Ferrell always does ... his character is like a cynical, more offensive more bumbling more music obsessed version of his character from Elf.
Watching it, I was reminded that Rachel McAdams is a talented comedic actress, and it turns out she's a pretty good singer too (though some of her character's more powerful singing is dubbed by another performer) Dan Stevens aka Cousin Matthew, crushes it in his performance and there are a lot of fun cameos, especially by past Eurovision stars. There's some beautiful scenery in Iceland, and some madcap touring around Edinburgh, which made me nostalgic for the times I've visited there on vacation. I've since gone down a bit of a Eurovision rabbit hole watching old videos. There's one plot thread / development I could have done without, but overall it was a nice silly distraction.
The trailer is here:
Though I can't for the life of me understand how they passed up the opportunity to call it Eurovision Song Contest: The Saga of Fire Saga. LOL!

Dan Stevens! 😍😍😍 He was perfection in this role, and I so agree, it’s a lovely bit of fluff to pass a bit of time. Dan’s role is just the kind of showy thing actors love, and he hit it out of the park.
Rachel also did a really good job lip syncing, which is a tough kind of thing to get right. I thought it dragged a tiny bit just past the middle, but it had so much heart I really didn’t mind. The always handsome Pierce Brosnan was a welcome addition, too.
Also, the elves! 👍🏼 😂😂😂

I saw it the day it came out. I find Will Ferrell hard to tolerate, so I’m surprised that I made it through the whole thing. I watched it mainly for the music, and it did not disappoint in that area! I agree that Rachel McAdams is very good, and I loved Dan Stevens. I was so proud of myself for knowing who he was! I would watch an entire movie about his character.
This is the only Will Ferrell movie I’ve ever watched. Previously, I had seen him as a regular on SNL. But he truly does only play one character over and over again. This time, he added long hair and a funny accent. He plays this slow/dim character who’s almost child-like so that when he says vulgar things (which he does often) we’re supposed to think that he’s saying them innocently. That act gets really old really fast - and he’s been doing that since his SNL days. But hey, what do I know? I’ve read reviews saying that this is his best movie yet, so obviously he has loads of fans out there.

I loved Will Farrell in SNL! I thought he was very funny! Maybe his George Bush Jr. wasn't exactly the best impression ever but it was hysterically funny. He uses to play the stereotype of the dumb American man that's why it's very funny seeing him in this film playing an European that absolutely despises Americans and seems to think they are a version of his usual comic persona!
The film is indeed silly and TBH not that good but it's very enjoyable and agreed that Rachel McAdams steals it! She is funny but also extremely lovable.
EDITED The best Will Farrell's movie isn't this one, it's probably Elf!

Elf is the BEST! I liked his version of W. It was pretty decent and very funny.
