I remember that Miss Marple refers to Benedict’s character as “gorgeous”, and I wondered whether that was in Agatha Christie’s story, or they wrote it into the script when Benedict was hired for the part. Ha!
Russell Tovey was also in the cast, so Sherlock was a bit of a reunion for them.

This was the first thing I ever saw BC in, and I remember wondering after that line, "why didn't they cast a gorgeous actor?" Then by the end of it, I thought "he's really very charismatic," and I watched his parts again. Then a year later when I saw Sherlock, I thought "why did they cast such an odd-looking man?" only to have the exact same reaction again with no idea it was the same actor!

My sister and I first referred to him as the “unusual looking guy who plays Sherlock Holmes in that new show with the naked actor from Love Actually”. Ha! We were talking about him because I had heard that he had been voted Sexiest Actor (or something like that) in a magazine poll. That’s really how he first got my attention. I wondered whether it was that same “unusual-looking guy ...“ Then, when I went online and looked up the magazine poll, the photos of him barely resembled the Sherlock Holmes photos I’d seen in Entertainment Weekly. And I was hooked!

PBS is showing it again right now. I check every week to see which episode it is. So I’ll be busy watching that for the next 90 minutes.
