We're watching Mildred Pierce the 2011 version made by HBO and starring Kate Winslet. Just 2 more episodes to go to complete the miniseries. Excellent. I'd like to see the original Joan Crawford version after this to compare.
Very much a deep character study. The acting is so believable. I actually feel I am watching a real family! And the production values of this are remarkable!
It won and was nominated for a bunch of awards, including a win for Winslet for an Emmy for best actress.
Can't recommend it enough!

I still love Joan Crawford’s version just b/c of the level of melodrama! Fabulous stuff, and her daughter (played by Ann Blyth) is deliciously bad & evil. Give me a luscious b&w movie anytime!
I was kind of underwhelmed with Kate’s version. It was much more “real,” and as a result, not as much pure fun.

I haven't watched nor Kate Winslet nor Joan Crawford versions but I watched the gay Tilda Swinton one. Someone remember it? (I guess the other two versions were also kind of gay but I'm referring to the explicitly gay one from the early 2000s!)
EDITED I checked and it seems Tilda Swinton movie, The Deep End is actually based in another 1940s movie/book The Reckless Moment so yeah! I haven't watched any Mildred Pierce versions! A few critics compared them so at least it seems it influenced it!

Well we finished up the series. I really enjoyed it thoroughly. Dan thought it was a bit weak as a conclusion. Afterward I read several reviews in cluding one by famed author Stephen King. Pretty well all predicted correctly that Kate Winslet would capture awards for her performance. I thought her performance was magnificent! But some of the supporting actors were just as strong IMO.
The only thing I can fault the show on is the appalling opening credits! They were HORRIBLE! Very dull.
Now we will be watching the second episode of Your Honor.
