It's from Film Comment March-April 2017: Apparently he doesn't watch too much modern films, he said before he didn't know who Marion Cotillard was before working with her (she also had an "interesting and very expressive face" and says here that he didn't know Charlie Humman neither but he was recommended by the financiers. It kind of sounds BC searched for the role.

He hadn't seen any of those actors? Wow! He's been very lucky in his collaborators!
It does sound like Benedict sought out the role. I'm going to see the movie and try not to think about what it would have been like with him in the lead.

It kind of sounds BC searched for the role. Still crying here. My case. I couldn't find but a reference to Weinstein and not by Gray.

I couldn't find but a reference to Weinstein and not by Gray. I couldn't find any reference to HW in that interview either. Just one remark (by the writer, not Gray) about how the Weinstein Company had delayed its release (which may have implied dissatisfaction with the film but never outright criticised HW for its treatment). Maybe this wasn't the interview that was the source of such opinions? BTW: the interview on Hitfix was really interesting. Thanks for posting it. It is always intriguing to get a peek into the mind of a filmmaker and how he/she approaches directing and choice of material. I think, even though BC eventually didn't go through with the role (completely understandable - family has to be a priority IMO, if choices have to be made), I would still love to see how this turned out. :-))

Sorry. It's in the Film Comment interview: It's just above his BC's mention so that's why he had "eight months of moping and psychiatry"
