Forgive my ignorance but how do y'all think this will review among the (less skilled) majority of reviewers? Maybe I should rephrase that but these reviewers so far seem like REAL cinema reviewers who understand art but the majority of reviewers are more casual reviewers. Will this go over their head? Will it be too progressive for some? Just curious. When i heard the "divisive" talk I thought it was really divisive but so far it looks like a major hit no? I'm sure it'll go down but doubt it will end up being a divisive, on the contrary.
Thanks Sgev for posting all of this amazing content. A dream come true for me as a fan. No offense to all the other great people he worked with in the past, but I always wanted him to work with amazing directors and this is it. May he continue to work with more amazing directors on great projects.

I hear ya. My bestie told me she saw the teaser clip and that she had NO idea what it was about, not a clue. And yet I’ve been telling her about this book and the movie for more than a year, lol.

May he continue to work with more amazing directors on great projects. Totally agreed! I hope he quickly finds another project like this one. I'm not too excited about The War Magician which supposedly is his next film! About the reviews, I sincerely don't know. Clearly there were a lot of award pundits and letterbox amateur accredited as press or at least they were pretty vociferous during the screening. They did not fear for repercussions about breaking the embargo. Most probably because they aren't really press! Some of Campion films were absolutely despised by critics at the time. Just to be reevaluated years later and now being considered masterworks. But the good news, it's that this time some of the most important and influential publications are loving it! We will see what happens with amateurs. It could go any way: the ones who were waiting an accesible Oscar baity drama VS people who really like cinema and have an open mind.

I like that this film got a really good push off the starting blocks. It was generally enthusiastically received and that's a whole lot better than being ignored! I think sometimes it's about momentum and so far TPOTD seems to have some real momentum. But it is early, so we'll have to see what is in store for the other festivals. Still it's great to see all this buzz around this film, this director and THIS actor! I'm just enjoying it thoroughly and soaking up all the attention to his talent and skill! And the pretty pictures!!☺️

They did not fear for repercussions about breaking the embargo. Most probably because they aren't really press! Letterboxd aka the Twitter space of cinema. They always give me the impression of edgy teens aiming to write very snarky reviews. I'm sure there are some good reviewers on there but in general not a place I would go to get a good representation of any film. I'm not saying this because of what's been said about this one, cause despite all of that, it has overwhelmingly positive reviews on there too. I thought about reading 2-3 award forums and see their reaction to all of these positive news. Well let's say I regretted that instantly. One person said TPOTD reminds him of Joker, how it opened to rave reviews and dropped to 60% soon after in regards to it being divisive. Another quoted 4-5 reviews of critics who said Benedict was miscast and how he definately won't win the Oscar. What about all the other positive ones who gave him rave reviews ? I feel there are people who have certain agendas against certain people, even reviewers are guilty of this imo. And that clouds their judgment. Ah well. Let's all wish for the best here. I really hope Benedict can get an oscar for this one. If TPOTD can win 1 award, I hope it's for best leading actor.
