A couple of years back as I was checking out in the grocery store, the store manager said that a previous customer had donated $50 towards somebody else's groceries. He chose me to give it to. I paid it forward by donating for someone else.

Ever since I got my very first job, it always seemed important to give a little Christmas gift to the boss, the secretary (or secretaries) and the janitors. There would almost be group gifts, too, where we had all chipped in, but I liked to do my own.
It was never anything extravagant or expensive - usually a desk calendar for the boss, something pretty for the secretaries, and maybe a funny mug for the janitor. The boss probably didn’t care one bit about any gifts from employees, but the secretaries and janitors where usually thrilled.
I remember one janitor in particular who was in tears thanking me for thinking of him. He said he’d never received a Christmas gift from the other employees before. After that, he went out of his way to do things for me and give me special treatment. Of course, that was never the reason I gave the gifts! It was amazing to see how happy it made them.
