They just announced July line-up and it has a Netflix film but it’s not TPOTD!
Lol! Yes, it’s Okja! I don’t think it’s a great film but it’s clear they are more interested on favorites auteurs than on anything else. I think that looks positive for Jane Campion and TPOTD, especially because it actually was acclaimed! I just hope it’s soon. Marriage Story was released the next July after winning one Oscar (like Drive My Car) and then The Irishman was announced the next November (TPOTD?). Roma was added until the following year in February but it was the first ever Netflix title to be selected.
There are other multiple Netflix titles but those are the “Oscar Netflix” films. They haven’t added any from 2020 but those weren’t THAT successful like Okja, actually! So they still could happen. Mank and Da 5 Bloods are the ones that have any chance from that year. The Chicago 7 like Tick Tick Boom this year have 0 chance! I can see Passing being selected even if Rebecca Hall is a new filmmaker. I’m not sure about The Lost Daughter but it could happen. The obvious one is TPOTD, tho.
