Miriel said: So this is more about you and your longings, rather than the actual films that he is chosing. :-)) Of course it is about me, about my opinions and my impressions. There is nothing wrong in it, I hope, just as there is nothing wrong in your being completely happy with the way his career is going, or with being incredibly excited with Current War or about your not being a fan of Tolkien and "Hobbit". I appreciate his excellent taste in choosing interesting roles and I keep my fingers crossed for him getting the recognition for his incredible talent he deserves to get. So well, indeed, I am wishing for more. )

This guy from The Guardian who has the book in his hands is also saying the story reminds him to Orlando! So I win! 😉 Although I'm not sure he actually read it!

Nice review. And it's a story that I'll quite like to see. I'm rather tempted to read the book too. But in truth, I can see it getting panned by online idiots and even critics, sight unseen, for it's similarity to Highlander, barring a few sword fights. And a remake of Highlander itself is in development as well.

We have to wait for the book but it seems to me that the story is much more a fantasy drama or comedy than an action adventure one as Highlander. At least to me, they sound very different but you never know with trolls.

I am sorry but I don't understand - "trolls"? Has someone been trolling about this project?
EDIT: I just saw that I missed dreamsincolour's post. I wouldn't worry about "online idiots" (they are inconsequential in the long run) and I would hope only a few bloggers would take the Highlander route to automatic criticism without viewing the material, rather than serious critics.

People on social media can be very "imaginative" when trying to berate something without having a good reason but I doubt (normal) people would compare them. This thing sounds extremely different.
Also it's interesting to see how these three last projects seems to have a few things in common. He will play a father in all of them and his relationship with his kids seems to be an important plot point. Also there is the theme of time passing and at least in the TV projects (but probably here too) nostalgia for the "better times" or at least less difficult times.
Dr. Strange is also about time and accepting the present!

I'm more concerned about it getting panned by me!
I don't know what Highlander is, but that review could have been describing any number of books, movies and tv shows. I'm happy that the guy who wrote the review loved the book so much, but he didn't say anything to make me think it will be different from what others have already done so well. I'm worried!

I don't think it sounds that much like Highlander - I mean the spirit and genre of the story seems very different. But swap "he" for "she" (and "at 1/15th speed" for "not at all") and that review could really be for Age of Adaline, verbatim. It's not a terribly original idea, but it can be very different in tone and as such distinguishable from all the other "protagonist not aging" stories.

It's like Highlander in that the basic theme is a man who is immortal but that doesn't mean the story will be the same too. There's loads of books and movies with the same underlying theme but which are very different in their execution. It's like music, millions of different songs made from the same eight notes.
