OT but Cillian Murphy will star and produce a Netflix series/movie based on another book by the same author called Shy. He, obviously, starred in the theater version of Grief is a Thing with Feathers. Also, I noticed that the lead producer site just updated Thing with Feathers entry and it says they are now filming it. That’s another very clear indication that they are, well, shooting it right now. www.andreacornwell.com/index#/the-thing-with-feathers/I wish we could have some new info! Who is also in the cast? Or is just BC (I easily can imagine him also playing the Crow. Just like Murphy did in the play) and some newcomers playing the kids?; What about the crew?; Will they presented it and it will be bought at the European market during the Berlinale? EDITED MK2 is still saying it’s on pre-production but surely it’s because they haven’t updated the site! mk2films.com/en/film/the-thing-with-feathers/They just announced they will produce/distribute the Todd Haynes/Joaquin Phoenix film (which will go to the Europe Film Market) so why they don’t announce something about this? lol Why not a set photo?! I’m waiting for at least an interview with the company in which they confirm some bit about this film.

1) I'm changing the name of this thread to News. 2) Max Porter posted on instagram about the movie Cillian Murphy is going to produce and star. https://www.instagram.com/p/C3GW2yDIP3J He wrote the script. 3) On Imdb it says that the Crow is going to be played by Eric Lampaert. Never heard of him. www.imdb.com/name/nm3382553/?4) One of the producers of the joaquin Phoenix film is Christine Vachon who produced Past Lives, May December, Carol. She knows how to sell. The End We Start From distributors were horrible. They didn't released the movie almost anywhere. They have to do something about the sales. The Courier during the pandemia made 25 mi and played in many countries. TEWSF was released in the UK and 2 or 3 more countries.

MK2 is selling it so it depends on them. They are a good company (Anatomy of a Fall, Occupied City, The Settlers, How to Have Sex. All of them big festivals hits) but there haven’t been any announcements about sales for local markets yet.

Eric Lampaert is, apparently, a French comedian with a wonderful very interesting face, Also Christine Vachon is the perennial Todd Hayne producer so it’s not a surprise she is behind Joaquin Phoenix film. Maybe she doesn’t have the long career of Vachon but I think Andrea Cornwall has some good taste, too. She “discovered” Rose Glass and I mentioned here before that I personally absolutely loved Bruce Lee and the Outlaw. I think it’s a very daring, sordid, funny and heartwarming documentary. She also is a UK producer so she is more concerned about new British talent. But the visibility of the films in different markets will be decided by the buyers.

But it's the first time she's involved with SunnyMarch. Saint Maud was very well received. "But the visibility of the films in different markets will be decided by the buyers." But if the buyers decide not to show it there is a problem. Why make a movie if nobody is going to watch?

I don’t think buyers really want no one to watch their movies (at least they are doing some tax trick like WB but that’s another case!) but that’s the risk with indie and arty films nowadays especially with new talents behind the camera. People who stand for those films mostly have the best intentions and I actually think BC is doing more for cinema working and producing new talents like Will Sharpe, Mahalia Belo and Dylan Southern than those other “cool” actors who are so “daring” that only work with huge names and already very proved people. The Nicole Kidman vs Leonardo DiCaprio schools, I guess. The last one is more successful but he isn’t really helping anyone nor risking anything. He is only feeding his own ego. Nothing bad with that (of course, it would be fantastic if BC works with Scorsese one day!) but how great is that Kidman uses her power for actually helping new talents that later became big.
There was a fight at Cannes for The Courier and it’s a very accessible and kinda beloved movie for those who watched it but yeah, it was affected by COVID. TEWSF is an even much smaller film with a new talent behind camera. It isn’t doing too much noise but probably in its case the important thing was that it was made.
We will see what happens with TTWF. It indeed will help if it’s bought by a powerful film company but, again, it’s the half of a rock documentary director duo making his debut. He isn’t still a big name but it’s nice that both Andrea Cornwall and BC believed in him. Hopefully, some important buyers also could see what they saw on him and his project.
