I can’t comment on her acting, because I haven’t seen her in anything. But she, as a person/celebrity, really bugs me - like Jennifer Lawrence does. FP regularly shows up at public events wearing, in my opinion, inappropriate and unflattering outfits. That would be fine, I guess, but then she lashes out at anyone who criticizes how she looks.
And I think that she - and Jennifer Lawrence - are terrible role models for the young girls who are their fans.

Ellie said "But I don’t think she’s outstanding so am a bit mystified about the level of”buzz” that surrounds her." Like you said she OK but not outstanding. Honestly I must be out of the loop on buzz about her because I've never heard of her. She's not someone I've ever noticed "in the news" (not like Timothée Chalamet - he's EVERYWHERE!). Like I said, I saw her in Don't Worry Darling and didn't mind her at all but she didn't stand out as an actress in anyway either. Not as someone extraordinary, that made me want to see more of what she could do. The only actor who stood out in Don't Worry Darling was Harry Styles and he was HORRIBLE! I see she's in Dune 2, but I absolutely HATED the first part, so I won't be taking another trip into THAT desert! She’s British so it may be that the buzz is only in this neck of the woods. But the UK media seem to love her. ,

I first saw FP in The Little Drummer Girl, a miniseries adapted from Le Carré's novel directed by Park Chan-wook. She was very young for the role. So that was a bit distracting. Also her handler and lover or love interest was played by Alexander Skarsgärd who is like 20 years older than her and looked like her father. In the novel she was older and very liberated politically (left-wing, pro Palestine) and sexually. That was the reason she was contacted by Israel. She was also an almost failed actress. That's why she accepted the role of spy.In the novel they were both very broken. She looks in her teens. I didn't like much the adaptation, though it was beautiful, beautiful places, wonderful photography. FP wasn't bad but to me she was miscast. The show was watched less than Patrick Melrose. although it was from the BBC.
I just looked at her filmography and she was lead on Lady Macbeth but that movie wasn't watched either. I remember her acting was very well received. I think her fame started with Midsommar (I'm still not sure if I like it even if it's beautiful to look at), then Little Women (I hated her in this but she was nominated for an Oscar). I don't have any problem to watch her movies (except the Marvel ones). I don't think it's her duty to be a role model. I agree her choice in clothes isn't always the best but it happens that she's not that tall and that affects how she looks with some kind of clothes.

She is beautiful but yeah, most of her clothes isn’t very fit for her (warning: I’m not an expert and probably real experts would think my clothes choices are an abomination! Lol I’m just a normal person who doesn’t care too much for my own “style”). There is just something off about her sometimes very daring attires on her but, as mllemass said, people tend to see any criticism towards her style as a political issue and that’s bizarre! The same with Chalamet and also daring blouses (his back is too big!!!). Nothing against men wearing female clothes but he is kinda too old now for that particular styles! Maybe he should use some female clothes designed for older women! Sometimes men are praised for being sexually ambiguous but they aren’t David Bowie! Those clothes just sometimes doesn’t look good on them!
She was awfully attacked because he was dating someone much older than her. That was ridiculous but typical of Twitter!
EDITED Of course, they can dress themselves whatever they like and they shouldn’t care for other people’s opinions but there’s something really sick when they (and/or social media) interpret any criticism as something political or a social issue. They just show how frivolous is their pseudo political activism.

Harry Styles dresses in that male peacock/fem type of clothing and he looks fabulous in it. Never seen him act in anything but he was very cute playing dodgeball with Ben against the American team.
There’s my non sequitur for the day. 😂

Harry Styles dresses in that male peacock/fem type of clothing and he looks fabulous in it. Every generation has that one gender-bender rockstar/popstar. However, like sgev1977 said, he's not Bowie. David Bowie was expressing himself and it was beautiful (the cheekbones!). It was art when he did it. With Harry Styles, it feels inauthentic. It's more of a marketing gimmick in his case, or at least that's how it feels. I look at Bowie and am in awe, I look at Harry and think "it's fine". Edit: Maybe it's also got something to do with the times. In the 70s and 80s, Bowie was really making a statement. Harry is just the norm now.

Agreed with it being a “norm” now. They kinda think and present it like something hyper daring and even political but it’s actually pretty mainstream! Actually the only people scandalized by those outfits are the same circle they want to pandering: “I’m offended because gay baiting!”
It was different in the 1970s.
