Someone watched Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Legacy? There is a little fuss right now because it was suddenly canceled and hysterically
I actually had a basketball phase in the early 1990s, you know, thanks to the Dream Team and the cousin of a cousin who lived in the USA but frequently visited them and was a huge Lakers fan so she kinda influenced us all. And it was entertaining to see the fictional story of some of those by the early 1990s old players. I understand some of them were pretty angry with their portraits, tho.!
Also, Gabby Hoffman was there as John C Reilly, who played the team owner, trusted right hand woman. She was barely in the second season. Her last scene suggested her storyline was planned to continue in a third season. Hoffman, of course, plays BC’s wife in Eric. Interesting enough, both series were/will be set in the 1980s. Probably, the best thing about Winning Time was the way they captured the decade. That looked very authentic. It was probably slightly too dynamic for the time but the photography and editing were great imitating old style video and film images.
the second season ended with the Lakers losing the finals to their huge rival the Celtics. Larry Bird and the Celtic owner were clearly presented as big antagonists without villanized them too much but… maybe just a little! Especially, the owner. At least Bird was humanized in the second season (in the first one was clearly the villain!) after they showed us his father suicide, the poverty of his family and how lovely was his mother. I actually wanted to see more about him and I kinda felt more sympathetic towards him at the end than with Michael Johnson, who was believing his own success at this point of the plot! So I’m happy, they won! Lol
. They clearly didn’t wanted to finishing it like that! But it was a good series!I actually had a basketball phase in the early 1990s, you know, thanks to the Dream Team and the cousin of a cousin who lived in the USA but frequently visited them and was a huge Lakers fan so she kinda influenced us all.
