The “box office achievement” award is such nonsense! These award shows seem to rush to respond to criticism, but they still get it all wrong. They are criticized for ignoring the movies that “real” people actually saw, so they award a movie just for making a billion dollars! Yes, it is ridiculous, they know from the start which is the winner. I watched the Golden Globes. They gave awards to movies and tv shows that I’ve never seen or even ever heard of. But if they deserved to win, then maybe I’ll try to look for them one day. The shows they awarded are good. I watched part of The Bear, it's intense and I was tired so I stopped for a while but it is my intention to return to it now that I'm on holidays. Perhaps not binge. I still didn't watch Beef but I read about it. It's on Netflix.

I started watching Beef a while ago, but I just disliked the characters too much to continue.

Well, I watched Succession and Oppenheimer so I guess I picked the GG winners! Lol!
Honestly, the selection at our local theatre is so poor that of the 9 offerings on the screens only one move was even close to being enticing to consider leaving the confines of my home to go see in the cinema - Ferrari. The rest were either animation, musicals or action/horror/fantasy dreck. Not my cup of tea!
The only "cinema worthy" film that we went to see recently was Oppenheimer. I won't go to see something like a rom-com - it's not worth "the big screen experience" and the money.
But I enjoyed seeing Oppenheimer on the big screen.

I never watch award shows because they generate way too much second hand embarrassment for me - that scripted “banter” and often cringe inducing acceptance speeches. But I like looking at the fashion and I like to know who wins so I tend to just follow the live commentary online. Or read about it the next day.
My verdict on this year’s GG’s. There were some lovely dresses, mostly the right people won and I feel a bit sorry for the host who seems to have died on his feet and is getting ripped to shreds in the media. From what I can gather his material wasn’t really offensive, just very poor.

I used to watch award shows because Dan and I used to go to a huge amount of films at the cinema. But we hardly ever go actually out to the cinema now.
I'm only driven by seeing people I really like up for awards, such as... DHP, MJF and BC. Or directors.
TV awards are very difficult (I don't relate to most of the nominations) for me because we haven't had cable or "network" TV for about 15 years, so I'm not up on new stuff (unless it's on a streaming service).

I didn't watch the host's introduction. The comments on twitter about it reminded me the GGs were that night.
Of the winners I can't say much bcause I haven't see most of the pictures. I'm happy for Succession's wins especially Kieran Culkin's.
What I don't get is why they mostly awarded like 2 4 pictures and 3 shows. They could have spread the awards.

I started watching Beef a while ago, but I just disliked the characters too much to continue. Yes, I saw some people saying they had trouble to watch it because of that. I don't need that the characters are likable, but sometimes when lots of series do this (not likable characters) is a bit tiresome.

I don’t have to like the characters to like the show. The latest season of Fargo, for example, has fabulous awful characters! Jon Hamm couldn’t be more horrible, and I love him in it. The same for Jennifer Jason Leigh’s character. I was rooting for them all to win at the Golden Globes (and also Juno Temple, who’s wonderful). The problem I have is when we’re presented with a character that we’re supposed to relate to, and it’s so far from my own experience that I just can’t.

Opening Monologue at the Governors Awards
This was kind of funny. He didn't say the usual things such as thar film is too long, nobody watched that other film, etc.

John Mulaney is hilarious! I watched the video of his monologue last night, and today I was telling my sister to watch it. I was planning on just sending her the link, but I ended up telling her the whole monologue from memory. It took me a while because I was laughing too much while telling it.
