As you must know The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar is in the short list for Best Live Action Short. Here is a discussion about this category.
In alphabetical order - Only films we have seen can be deemed frontrunners. They don't say which shorts they've seen? Anyway those are all the contenders.
Fronttunners: “The After” “Good Boy” “Invisible Border” “Knight of Fortune” “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”
Contenders: “The Anne Frank Gift Shop” “An Avocado Pit” “Bienvenidos a Los Angeles” “Dead Cat” “Invincible” “The One Note Man” “Red, White and Blue” “The Shepherd” “Strange Way of Life” “Yellow”

So Anderson deserves the nomination, Almodovar doesn’t! 😉
I love Almodovar but his short wasn’t well received like Henry Sugar or like his other recent short. If it’s nominated it’s because the hype,

I hope it wins so Criterion decides to release the shorts on DVD. What a better excuse than an Oscar!
I still feel a little bad for the new talents who supposedly benefit from this category, tho.
We will see but supposedly the most difficult part for someone like Anderson was the nomination because supposedly the committee that chose them try to go for new names. I guess the award is voted for everybody so in theory more easily “manipulated” by big names. It’s pure speculation, of course!

Netflix accounts have tweeted about Maestro, May December, The Society of the Snow and Colman Domingo nominations but nothing about Henry Sugar.

Also a little disappointed of the Wes Anderson’s/Asteroid City’s fans who feel the need to disregard “Henry Sugar” as just “a short” or “a Netflix TV show”.
I really liked Asteroid City but the it was actually not so well received by most mainstream critics . “Henry Sugar”, on the other hand, was acclaimed. That’s a fact! And if most acclaimed films by him were ignored in the past in the lead categories why they were thinking Asteroid had a chance?
It would be a bizarre trivia if his only Oscar in his career will be for a short film but that’s not something odd for unconventional filmmakers and that doesn’t mean that a) there’s something bad with winning for a short; b) a short is inferior to a long film!

I was actually happy at the thought that Benedict might show up at the Oscars this year! And he should really be out there promoting Henry Sugar so that the voters can at least find it on Netflix and watch it.
I don’t want him going to award ceremonies only when he personally is nominated! He’s the star of Henry Sugar and should be there along with Wes Anderson. I think this nomination is great for his career. Wasn’t there a list posted a few years ago of the most “successful” actors (or something like that)? They were the actors that had been in the most award-nominated/winning movies. He was right up there.
