Oops but apparently Henry Sugar already lost an award against After and Netflix is already tweeting about that other film which also has some powerful names behind it!

Netflix has added “Oscar Nomination” to their Henry Sugar listing. I don’t know if they’re doing that for everything that’s nominated for an Oscar, but it’s a good idea. Years ago, back in the 80s and 90s, I made a point of seeing just about every movie that came out. It was when my sister and I were spending too much time in malls shopping every weekend, so going to movies was cheaper.
Then, after the nominations were announced, we’d try to see anything we’d missed. I doubt that I can do it this year, though.

Yes, all their nominated movies have that tag, even the ones with just technical ones like El Conde (cinematography, an important technical one)
Even without doing the effort, I used to have watched on a big screen all the nominated films before the ceremony! In the 1990s But little by little, the so called award movies were pushed to very select specialized theatres or just not shown on time/at all. You used to have access to arty films on multiplexes screens here.

If you’re interested in watching how they took the “class photo” at this year’s Oscars nominees luncheon, here it is. It’s pretty boring, but I was curious to see if Wes Anderson was there - he wasn’t. But producer Steven Rales was there (18:20). I hope he makes it to the actual awards ceremony. www.youtube.com/live/EyvDQv4KDBk?si=n1ncwg5LcwVVikyUAlso, off topic, I noticed that the announcer pronounced Poor Things unusually - for me, anyway. Maybe it’s an American thing, but should “poor” and “pour” sound the same? I’ve never heard “poor” pronounced like “pour” before, but the announcer said it that way over and over.

I’m sure there’s some American regional accent that sounds like that. I have a friend born & raised in Chicago and she pronounces “treasure” like “traysure.” Completely wrong, lol.

It must be the midwest. I'm from Missouri, and pronounce "poor" and "pour" the same. Also say "traysure."

It says it is the best entry so I think it's true that he thinks it should win but he says it will probably win, not that it will.
I watched the short with David Oyelowo (on Netflix?). I don't know if I liked or not. To me is a bit artificial. DO is very good.

I received an email from TIFF saying that they would be screening the Oscar-nominated Short Films, starting today. So I checked out other theatres, and Cineplex isn’t showing it, but the artsy theatre in town is! The Live Action Shorts, including Harry Sugar, will be showing this Sunday and Monday. I’m very tempted to go . . .
