The haters are convinced this is Adam & Sophie telling BC that if he doesn’t conform to their Evil Plans for child sex trafficking and other stuff like that as well as using him to further their Evil Money Ambitions then he’ll be killed like the Roses, or that they’ll trigger his destructive personality to kill himself.
I’m like wat?

I made the mistake of reading some of the Twitter comments about this. They are pretty nasty.

Really? I think they are pretty mixed. There are few people moaning because it’s a remake but a lot are by people who are happy with the idea and/or clearly doesn’t know about the existence of the original!
But probably, I have a lot of the idiots blocked!
The real nasty ones are by people who think Coleman isn’t so attractive like Kathleen Turner and express it in a very nasty way. They are blocked now, too!

And who knows what they’re going for in the remake? Yes, KT was an absolute sex bomb in the 80s, with her amazing body, husky voice, and her hair falling over one eye like that. But MD wasn’t a sex symbol at all. He was known (as was KT), for making bold, risky films. But they might not be playing up the sexy aspect in the remake anyway.
BC and OC are actors. If they need to be sexy, they can be, I’m sure. Look at Sherlock. That character dripped sex. But BC himself is a little more nerdy and goofy than sexy. I don’t know OC enough to know if she can do sexy or not. You know who would have been good? Helen McCordle. She was very sexy, I thought.

The irony is that in the 1990s, Douglas was usually criticized because the misogynistic “sexiness” in his movies. A lot of popular 1980s movies were, in general, considered Conservative and Retrograde by the 1990s. Action movies were considered pro-Reagan and xenophobic (Top Gun and Die Hard, for example) and in the case of Douglas, he was the portray of the male fears confronting women liberation. Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct and, yes in less degree, The War or the Roses were maybe sexy but also about a war between sexes in which more often than not, a femme fatale from hell declared war to his everyday not entirely innocent but kinda “normal” man.

By the way, a few hour ago I saw a Tweet by a woman saying how difficult it’s British humor and how it’s not for everyone so she asked to people to be honest and to vote for who would be a better couple for the remake, Sandra Bullock and Brad Pitt or OC and BC. I normally don’t do these kind of things but almost instinctively voted for the British actors! I was the first one to vote! But minutes later I saw that she had other like 4 votes. Yes, I know! Too little! but all were for OC and BC!
Later, I saw another tweet by someone (probably also her!) claiming that Sandra Bullock and Brad Pitt are the ones perfect for this movie! lol

I sort of hate remakes to begin with, but if they’re going to do it, I much prefer a British version with an entirely different sensibility and with proper actors. Both Sandra and Brad are always Sandra and Brad, if you get what I mean. I’d like character actors in it, to see what they can pull out of the material. But I’m not too keen on Hollywood anyway these days. Too artificial, too focused on slickness and money.
