That "Cumberbatch replaces Depp in Fantastic Beasts" April's Fool is just cruel. Not that the first Fantastic Beasts film was any good anyways, but Depp's appearance ruined it for good. He looked atrocious. The Potterhead in me wanted to throw a tantrum right there in the cinema! (Like I've done with any HP film lol. But Depp was the worst. Well no, Gary Oldman as Sirius is still my least favorite casting in the whole HP franchise. Oldman is a great actor but so miscast.)

OT IGS but what is your ideal casting for the HP movies. I'm interested because I didn't like Michael Gambon as Dumbledore and Emma Watson as Hermione. I loved Richard Harris as Dumbledore though.

OT IGS but what is your ideal casting for the HP movies. I'm interested because I didn't like Michael Gambon as Dumbledore and Emma Watson as Hermione. I loved Richard Harris as Dumbledore though. I must admit I wasn't too fond of those movies in the first place. I was such a massive Harry Potter fan when the first movie was released, and I got a "bit" book purist-y and angsty cause the movie didn't get everything the way I wanted it to. In my defense I was 14 at the time lol. Anyways, my favorite castings are probably Alan Rickman (RIP) as Snape and Maggie Smith as McGonagall. Rickman was much too old for the role (Snape in book one is 31 years old) but he was just so good that I could ignore it. With Sirius it was harder, because while he wasn't supposed to be at his best after 12 years in Azkaban, I always figured he'd be an extremely handsome man. I didn't have a fancast at the time or anything, but now that I think of it I'd imagine him looking something like a scruffy Aidan Turner as Poldark. In fact I think the darker the character the better cast. All the Malfoys are good, ditto Bellatrix (although I still haven't even watched Order of the Phoenix), Pettigrew...ok David Tennant was awful. Ralph Fiennes I can take or leave as Voldemort but that character was simply impossible to bring to life in a way that he'd be as intimidating as Voldemort is in the books. Despite my dislike of Oldman, Tennant, whoever portrayed Ginny (movie Ginny is awful- though even in the books I don't like the Harry/Ginny relationship cause she's his fangirl and his main feelings toward her seem to be "she looks like my dead mother" and "I love her family") etc my biggest issue is Daniel Radcliffe as Harry. He was dreadful in the beginning, and came across as quite lifeless throughout the series. I loved Emma Watson in the beginning, she and Tom Felton (Draco) were my favorites of the child actors. Their post-Potter careers have done a huge flip-flop though, Radcliffe has really grown into a fine actor and I'm very impressed with his career. Interestingly, as for my bitching about Johnny Depp...Depp about 15 years ago would have been pitch perfect for the role he portrayed. Depp as of right now looked ridiculous and horrible. Should have kept Jamie Campbell Bower .

Yes! Adrian Turner would have been great as Sirius Black. He may have been a bit young when the films were made though. I don't know how old he is.
Alan Rickmansworth was perfect as Snape. In fact I thought the casting for all the teachers was ok until Michael Gambon took over as Dumbledore. Gambonnis a terrific actor but he just wasn't right for Dumbledore in my opinion.
I agree that Daniel Radcliffe has improved immensely as an actor. I still don't rate Emma Watson though.

He may have been a bit young when the films were made though. I don't know how old he is. Yeah he was way too young, he'd be the proper age to portray Sirius about now - he's 33 which is the age Sirius is in Prisoner of Azkaban. Although to be fair he probably should look a bit older due to having such an awful life, so Turner might still be too young now. The biggest issue though for Sirius' age is that they aged everyone else (Snape, Lupin etc) up so much that they needed to do the same to Sirius since they were classmates. I suppose that's why they went with Gary Oldman, I just didn't think he was a good fit age notwithstanding. Anyways, since I never did do fancasting (it's not like I knew many British actors when they were casting the films), Aidan Turner just struck me one day as being exactly what I had imagined Sirius as. Like, yes, this but with a bit more haggard face: When I think of Harry Potter I think the only characters who in my mind are their film counterparts are McGonagall, Bellatrix and the Malfoys - and Snape's voice will always be Rickman's voice. In contrast, if I read or think about Lord of The Rings I mostly see the characters as their on-screen characters, but then I had seen Fellowship of the Ring before reading LoTR so I guess that's different.
