I didn't see the last Spiderman, but Zendaya does not play Mary Jane, correct? So maybe they're casting a redhead to play her. I know fans complained. Perhaps the new male lead is Spiderman's friend Harry, whose father becomes Green Goblin? He wouldn't be the "lead", though.
Wasn't Rio expected to start filming in June? Spiderman will no doubt start in July. Maybe JG's part in Rio, and BC's part in Spiderman 2, would be small enough to allow them to do both?

I'm disappointed Guadagnino is not doing it but on the other hand, I'm happy with Edward Berger. I think he did something superior with Patrick Melrose and I'm bothered that his work as filmmaker isn't being highlighted as deservedly the acting and writing are being highlighted. I guess it's because the nature of so called peak TV which originally was more about writing and acting so TV critics just doesn't bother too much about filmmaking (the few people who has mentioned it are mainly film critics). I actually thought at the time that I would liked to see BC develope a work relationship with someone with the potential to be a great filmmaker as Berger. So in that sense, I'm happy!
EDITED: It seems it's called Río again! So good news for the Brazilian fans that wanted those actors in Rio, I guess!

Yes, it seems it's again called Río and I noticed that it's the first time it's officially announced: there are quotes by those involve and now this tweet. Before it was just leaked info.

The Wrap: www.thewrap.com/jake-gyllenhaal-benedict-cumberbatch-to-star-in-edward-bergers-rio/Variety and THR haven't published anything even when this time it's official. I don't think Michelle Williams is still involve because there's not a mention of her. Funnily one of her fans commented that surely she won't be interested without Guadagnino. I wanted to recommend her Patrick Melrose but why to bother!I don't think Williams is so pretentious to reject movies because the (very promising) director isn't famous enough or has mainly a career in TV anyway!

It's on Variety now:
I also imagine it's something imminent considering they are saying Guadagnino is out because "due to scheduling commitments". Maybe early next year after Ironbark which seems it will be shoot in Autumn.
Again it seems it's Brazil again, not Sri Lanka and I guess they also returned to the original concept about the financial journalist and the financier instead the actor and a rich friend.

If these are the immediate "for sure" projects I am very excited to see Rogue Male in that group! I have been hoping this one does get made because I think BC would be spectacular in that PO'T role!!! 🤩🤩🤩

I’m just speculating but yes, it’s on the official announcement so it sounds promising.
