They don't mention "How to Stop Time", it is a pity, I was looking forward to it. Between "Rogue Male" and "Rio" I am more for "Rio", remakes are not really my thing and very rarely (if even) they are better than originals.

There was some problem with the script of How to Stop Time, wasn't it? I think they didn't mmention it because it got delayed.
I also prefer Rio. A pity Guagagnino isn't directing it but I'm ok with Berger. Patrick Melrose was so good.
Perhaps they can update Rogue Male to another era.

I don’t see Rogue Male as a remake but as a new adaptation. The Peter O’Toole’s TV movie is faithful but also very old BBC and Fritz Lang’s Man Hunt meanwhile is visually stunning is almost another story: it took a few of the better action sequences from the book but they added a very Hollywood romance! IMHO there is an opportunity for a surprise. Those two movie are enjoyable but they aren’t definitive in any way.

The past efforts are by no means definitive so I am eager to see what BC can do with this material. Rio: too bad really (IMO) they have apparently returned the story back to Rio, because I was hoping the change in locale would lend to a wider interpretation from the original movie. But it seems with these moves they are going more for a remake??? Still with such a stellar cast and a wonderful director like Berger it should be one heck of a film!! Looking forward to it!

Rio is not a remake. I understand it’s based in an original script by Steven Knight. I guess the decision to change location was by Guadagnino who, based on his movies, likes to do his own thing and frequently change scripts. There was a polemic about it with CBYN and clearly they were adapting this script to his desires. It seems they returned to the original concept but I don’t know anything about an original movie!

Great! Thanks for the additional info. S. Knight is a wonderful writer - I am a big fan of Peaky Blinders and the writing is a big part of that. :-))

I don't understand. The discussion was if they started filming this past May or in the summer? If they had to postpone it much more, why didn't they do as Guadagnino wanted?

I guess they postponed it because he left which it’s indeed ironic! I remember Guadagnino saying “he was tired” after some Italian journalist asked for it and BC actually said something similar “he is tired” (presumably because the award season) after someone asked to him although he added he really hoped he would do it so until recently he was still attached or there was still a possibility of him doing it. Maybe there were other conflicts with the studio. Guadagnino as BC and JG was also a producer.
That would explain the long hiatus of BC (and JG) had after Patrick Melrose. Both are the kind of actors who do a lot of projects but were “unemployed” in the summer!
It seems StudioCanal is determined to do it anyway. I hope it’s soon. Early next year?
In another slightly related theme, things could get ugly in Brazil with the elections! Very scary! I wonder if they plan to shoot it there.

I don't understand. The discussion was if they started filming this past May or in the summer? If they had to postpone it much more, why didn't they do as Guadagnino wanted? I was thinking that according to those quotes there was also a financial thing, too. LG wanted to work ”right away” “without the budgeting” (allegedly because he needed more time that they wanted to give him) which I can see why it could be a problem for the studio. It’s suggested he is talking about an animatronic of a snake and mentions he onces wanted to do one of a deer and it took time to get the cost and finally they couldn’t afford it. So he is promising them he would discarded it if it’s very expensive! Again it’s sad because it was reported that CMBYN was very cheap so he could work with small budgets but it was stil a risk for the studio.
