Is anyone watching? I've seen four episodes and I'm dissapointed. I loved this show but, unless things change big time in the remaining episodes, I think it's gone a series too far. The Underwood's plotting has become farcical.

Well, I have seen three episodes and am still enjoying it, as ever. Seeing how surreal reality is in the current state of American politics I don't think the show is that farcical. 😜
There is a certain element of "wag the dog" of HoC that resonates quite nicely with how things seem to operate south of my border. Scary but true. I wouldn't put anything past the current occupant in the White House so is Frances Underwood all that far fetched?
:-))

I loved seasons 1-2 and 4 (OMG the last scene of S4!!!) but I haven't gotten to see season 5 yet. I moved this week and wifi hasn't been installed yet. I can share internet through my phone ofc but my blu-ray player only works through a physical cable and I prefer watching Netflix through it. So I'm waiting to see HoC when that works and I'm excited.

I love that show, it's just so far between seasons that I'm having trouble remembering all of the subplots and characters. So far I've only watched episode 1 of the new season.

Yes I still enjoy it. It's fab entertainment. It's just that, for me, the early seasons had something compelling to say about the psyche and machinations of politicians in the pursuit of power. Now those machinations and characters have become a bit, well, silly. I can't give examples for fear of spoiling it for others but, really, some of the stunts pulled in series 5 so far would even have Trump saying "we'll never get away with THAT ". 😀

We have now almost completed the new season and frankly there isn't anything I have seen in this season of HoC that seems out of place in an administration as illegitimate and slimy as the Trump administration. In fact I don't think the writers of HoC present thins quite as bleak as the reality of what the US now faces with Trump in charge. I don't put anything past those nutjobs who are in his cabinet (and that includes Trump too) and those working for him BTS (including the people who are "business acquaintances" of him in his shady deals in foreign lands). Doug Stamper could easily be based on those who are closest to Trump and work closely with him now as advisors. Everything I have seen on HoC is waaay to close to reality to be comfortable. It is very scary over there now. No wonder there are organizations in Canada that warn people thinking of visiting the US to think hard about it before traveling south of the boarder. I won't go a 1/2 mile over the bridge to venture into that land any more. Such a shame because when I was younger (and even up into my 50's) we traveled all over the States - but not now. :-))

You may well be right Roverpup. Having subsequently watched the documentary on Trump "associate" Roger Stone, which I refer to in another thread, there is nothing I would put past him in the way of dirty dealings. Still reckon the way the Underwoods dealt with the Sec of State and Claire's lover were a bit too clumsy. I fear Roger Stone & co would come up with something less obvious. 😀
