So I just rewatched epsode 2 & 3 again today for the first time since they aired or something like that, and I really enjoyed them much more the second time around. Has anyone got the same experience? I would really like to discuss the fourth season with you here, again. Why did you like it and/or Why Didn't you like it? And what kind of story should they tell if there ever is a fifth series?

I have rewatched them too, recently! TST I could do without, although it has some nice moments. I wasn't really that interested in Mary, tbh, so the focus on her didn't hold my interest. Also (unpopular opinion) I don't think Amanda is that great of an actress, or maybe I just haven't seen her better acting. I thought she overplayed just about everything, and not in a good way.
TFP I've grown to enjoy very much. It was a bit too violent for me, especially the first time around, but I love the interplay between the three guys. The Molly scene has me holding my breath until I explode, tho, and I adore Sherlock's growth.
For season five, I want:
1. A whodunnit at a country house party, ala Gosford Park. 2. A black and white version of them fighting Nazis. 3. Musical! Yes, with singing.
😜

I loved the Culverton Smith episode! Could take or leave the rest of the season.
I don't think they will do another season, but if they did, I'd like another episode with Magnussen. He was my favorite Sherlock villain. (Yes, I know Sherlock shot him, but people are known to return on that show.)

Yes, TST is not fresh in my memory at the moment because I only watched the last two episodes today, but shall give it a try tomorrow. I wonder if you remember what people were cross about regarding the fourth season and in which way was the cast 'badly treated' after it premiered? Benedict is so good, but I suppose I initially thought that the latest story lacked the same finesse and special atmosphere that made me Love the show in the first place. But now when the story wasn't such a highly anticipated surprise, I appreciated the story and some intricate details so much more! I agree with you that the interaction between the Three leads in TLD was brilliant and I loved the scene where Sherlock refuses to play games in the end and showed how much he loved both his friend and his brother. I agree that Amanda was not the greatest as Mary neither as a character nor as an actress, she was fine, but not on the level like BC or MF. I am not sure what to think of the guy who portrayed Culverton Smith. What did you think? The scene where Sherlock attacks him att he morngue is a chilling scene. As for Aurus, the actress had quite some characters to pull off and I think that she did quite a great job with all of those disguises and I especially think that brother and sister built quite a connection to one another when all was said and done at the end for now. The story of Blackbeard was touching and made Sherlock's relationship with John and Mycroft come full circle and I really loved that. It was cool that Mrs. Hudson seemed to have a bigger role and that Sherlocks's drunk buddy and his parents made a return as well. As for the things that did not make so much sense here: Moriarty did not fit in here as well anymore and why would the straff at Sherrinford neglect to notify Mycroft that there were Huge problems with one of their patients? Why would he let her have five minutes alone with Moriarty? In case there will be a fifth season, do you think Euros will feature in it and will they develope her story? I agree that crime solving at a country house party would be brilliant! I am a sucker for musicals, but within the realms of this show, would it really work?

Toby Jones played Culverton and I thought he was brilliant! Disgusting, horrible person with the WORST teeth in Britain (and that's saying something, lol). That second episode is my favorite out of all four seasons. Sherlock is so heartbreakingly gorgeous with all that scruff and angst, and Martin did a fabulous job showing us John's grieving ambivalence and simmering anger. The scene in the morgue where Sherlock loses it is perfection. The timing, with cutting Lestrade in ("did you know?") just kept the tension building and building. So bloody brilliant! I find myself all scrunched up on my sofa with my hand in my mouth every time I watch that scene.
I liked Eurus in her crazy sociopathic way, and I think Sian was phenomenal in all those roles. Talk about three siblings with "me" complexes! Mycroft allowing Moriarty to visit stemmed from guilt, I think. She is his sister, and he'd been using her to predict threats against Britain for decades. As we learned, she can be very persuasive, and Mycroft was in a position with no support (because he lied to his family and has no friends). He made an error, thinking he was still in control of the situation when he wasn't. His pomposity and arrogance led to people's deaths just as much as Sherlock's has in the past.
And no, I don't think a musical Sherlock would work, lol, but I also never thought it would work in Buffy, either. But that musical episode was wonderful.

I loved the Culverton Smith episode! Could take or leave the rest of the season. I don't think they will do another season, but if they did, I'd like another episode with Magnussen. He was my favorite Sherlock villain. (Yes, I know Sherlock shot him, but people are known to return on that show.) Yeesss. I feel like we supposed to make Moriarty our fave villain, and I'm not mad about it coz Moriarty is awesome, but Magnussen... Magnussen i feel can diciplined Moriarty with just a flick of a finger lol. And another who was underrated was The Cabbie. He's not wealthy and powerful with all kinds of resources. And while yes, Moriarty put him up to it, it was he who did all the "talking". He talked Sherlock into doing the most stupid and illogical thing. We really have been spoiled with the level of talents for the villains, even Toby Jones seems just meh by comparison.

I loved Season 4 just as I have loved all the other seasons. 😍😍😍😍
TST - I really liked the direction of Rachel Talalay and I thought it was brilliant using the tale of Appointment in Samarra as a connecting thread to the theme of consequences that come home to roost. And I think focusing on the similarities between Sherlock, John and Mary was also a bold stroke that hit the right spot for me. It gave a fresh female perspective to the story and at the same time really deepened the exploration of all the characters (especially Sherlock's) which paid off in dividends in the subsequent episodes. One of my favourite scenes is when Sherlock surprises Mary, who thinks she has been so clever at taking the people threatening her away from Sherlock, John and Rosie in Morocco. The chemistry between Mary and Sherlock is wonderful in this scene - you can really feel how Sherlock loves Mary and vise versa. Which makes it all the more heartbreaking when Mary sacrifices her life in order to save Sherlock at the end. The other is the scene where Sherlock is talking to Mrs. Hudson about reminding him of "Norbury" to keep him humble in the future. It was a great way to show how Sherlock finally realizes the price of his willful arrogance and we can see a tangible evidence of personal character growth in him. Very profound and very emotional for me when I watched it.
TLD - A real gem of a episode and a definite candidate for one of my all time favourites of the show. This episode chose to explore a friendship bent to the breaking point and yet it did not break. It is a journey steeped in pain and redemption for John and Sherlock. The consequences really hit home and both BC and MF really call up all their acting skills to pull this off beautifully. And BC really does put on a tour de force of acting in TLD. I have a number of favourite scenes. One is when Sherlock is confronted by Mrs. Hudson as he rampages about 221B quoting Shakespeare and shooting the walls. The slow motion ballet as Hudders snatches the gun from Holmes is pitch perfect. Another is the whole scene with Mrs. Hudson bringing Sherlock to John while he is at his therapist's house. That whole scene is one giant roller coaster ride of emotion - laughs and tears. And I loved the scene of Sherlock and John (with ghost Mary) in 221B near the end. Very emotional and cathartic for both of them. Again their bond of friendship wins out in the end.
TFP - this is another episode that I just can't get enough of. I could watch this one a thousand times and still find something surprising every time. It is a real examination of how love of a friend, or a brother can heal even when there is so much forgiveness to be had. A really powerful message and it was all wrapped up in an exciting and deadly "game" played out by the principle characters of the show. Kudos to Sian Brooke for her characterization of Eurus. She worked so well against BC in their scenes together. Favourite scenes - lots! But here's just a sampling - 1) loved the disguised Sherlock as one of the henchmen of Sherrinford. I barely recognized him, his walk was soooo different. 2) loved the panic and stress in Sherlock's voice when talking to Molly on the phone. both LB and BC knocked this scene out of the park! 3) loved the redemptive scene between Eurus and Sherlock especially when he holds her in his arms. 4) loved, loved, loved the ending sequence - perfect way to end and I think Mary was the perfect narrator!
As for Season 5 - I don't care what they do. I trust the creators so whatever they decide is fine with me (except no musicals - I hate musicals on the screen and I think it would be a rather cheesy gimmicky direction to take this show).
That is, IF they do a season 5. I don't really need another season. TFP was very satisfactory to me in every way so if they never did another one that is fine with me too.
:-))

I just re-watched The Final Problem. It's only my 4th or 5th time, so it's the episode I've seen the fewest number of times. I really liked it before, but now I love it. From the first time I saw S1E1, I've told people that there's something magical about the show - and I still believe that. What else could explain that the episodes just keep improving with repeated watchings? And I can totally lose myself in it - the rest of the world disappears for 90 minutes and I become part of this amazing world with characters I absolutely love.
