I really don't think Manchester by the Sea was good enough to win all the hardware it did (although I don't dislike the film as much as my friend Mllemass ). And I still haven't found the interest to watch La La Land so I can't really say anything about its wins. Ha! One of my favourite parts of the awards ceremony was near the beginning when Stephen Fry was talking about some of the celebrities in the audience. He pointed out Casey Affleck and said something like "He's one one of the greatest actors . . . in his family". Really, though, what acting did he do?? They showed a clip from the movie where he's mumbling and looking down at the floor, and then he went up to accept his award - and mumbled and looked down at the floor. No acting took place! Ok - I'll save the rest of my rants for the Oscars! And I still have no interest in seeing La La Land, either, no matter how many awards it gets.

Well, Bafta never disappoints in not giving any award to Benedict and the films he is in, but IMO they should have won for visual effects.
Now I am curious about Hollow Crown: will they be so "generous" as to give BC the 7th nomination, lol?

I hope BC gets a BAFTA nom for his Richard in the Hollow Crown and a hope he wins (he certainly deserves it IMO) but knowing the many other times he didn't get it when he deserved it, I don't hold out much hope.
I m so glad I have the DVD of The Hollow Crown so I can watch his performance to my heart's content. And I have watched it countless times. It is pure perfection to me!
Sometimes I watch things purely because of BC (and enjoy them because of him). Such as DS - I never would have gone to a movie like that without BC being in it. And because of him I will also go to any sequels of DS. I am less sure of going to the new Avengers film - depends totally on how much he is in it, I guess.
But there are definitely lots of times that I watch things that I would have watched regardless of whether he is in it or not - like Sherlock, STiD, The Fifth Estate, The Imitation Game, August:Osage County, The Whistleblower, Parade's End, Hawking and The Hollow Crown series. Him being in it just makes it all the more enjoyable! The Current War and Rogue Male are another two projects that are right up my alley in movies that he will be seen in, in the future.
And there are a few things that he is in that I haven't seen still because I just don't like that genre of movie - like The Hobbit movies or the animated stuff (although I have seen his segments on Youtube and think he did a great job in them).

If I was able to make it through The Hobbit, then so can you! It helped that I went to a matinee so that I was wide awake and alert enough to pay attention through all three hours. And it also helped that the fight scenes (which bore me to tears) were fairly short, and there weren't too many. Actually, I remember reading that it was criticized for having so few fight scenes! And of course, having Sherlock and John together again onscreen was reason enough to see it. I admit that I still looked at my watch a few times, just to reassure myself that it would be over soon!

I abhor Fantasy in literature and in movies and I had to read LotR (all three of them) at uni in a Fantasty and Science Fiction Literature course I was taking (I did it for the Science Fiction part - which I love!!!!). After that I had my fill of anything to do with J. R. R. Tolkien! Maybe someday I will watch it (when my sister kidnaps me and puts on her DVDs of it and I am too decrepit to work the remote). What I do love watching is all the Youtube videos about how much work went into BC doing the role and even all the vids showing how they made Smaug! I think those are endlessly fascinating and have watched everyone I could find. :-))

It looks like now that Benedict is attending the Baftas on Sunday.

I have checked everywhere and do not see that BBC America will be broadcasting them tomorrow night or next weekend (they delay Graham Norton a week so I thought maybe). Anyone know if /when they will be shown in the US?

Filmon doesn't work any more, unfortunately. Since May 1, it only works for 2 minutes before timing out. They want you to pay a monthly subscription fee to get it to work again. There's been a lot of discussion about it online, and there are some very angry people who paid for the subscription and then discovered that it didn't apply to all their devices. Most people are confident that someone else out there will provide a free streaming service to replace Filmon.
In the meantime, if you have the patience, you can still watch it for 2 minutes at a time, and reload the page each time, over and over and over. If you're fast with your fingers, you don't really miss anything.
