Unless you're eating rats, it doesn't relate to veganism! Poor old rats. They do get a bad press. They need to hire an image consultant pronto!

Ha, yes! And really the answer is, if you've had a rat as a pet, their lives are valuable to you. If you haven't (I haven't), then you probably don't care either way. Just like with most non-cute animals!

Unless you're eating rats, it doesn't relate to veganism! I forgot to use an emoji. It was meant to be partly a joke. It relates to veganism, imo. Some people don't eat meat because animals suffer and they don't use leather clothes or use make up made from animals. Some people are vegan because they are for animal's rights. The girl who tweeted about BC being vegan is one of those.

Well I hope she never sees that photo shoot BC did a few years back whete he was modelling coats with real fur collars. 😀
In fact (risking lighting another blue touch paper here ) I would have far more of a problem with people who wear real fur than who eat meat.

I think that the fact that we need B12 vitamin and it is only found on animal products speaks against veganism. I know that now you can have supplements or shots, but where would people be if in the past their ancestors were vegan? Nowhere. Their ancestors would have died from pernicious anemia and very probably mad. This is all true, although you can take supplements - here in Finland at least they add B12 to some soy products, almond/oat milk etc. I was more wondering about the "controversy" re: BC, even comparing being vegan to smoking as per "controversy level." If an adult decides to not eat meat, dairy, eggs it doesn't seriously harm anyone around them (unless they are so militant that they forbid their children from eating anything non-vegan which has been an issue in kindergartens and schools sometimes.) If someone is offended by their favorite celeb's choice of food then that's their problem, not the celeb's. To be fair I find not eating meat very easy so it's not like I had to consciously give anything up (mushroom and aubergine risotto sounds a thousand times more appetizing than a rack of lamb to me haha.) More of a "well why not" type of a situation. I get that for some people it would be a bigger "sacrifice" and they don't want to be pestered into it. I eat fish myself pretty regularly. I have a friend who's a vegan in Argentina and sometimes I do wonder if it's difficult since the diet there is so heavy on red meat. But her boyfriend is Buddhist so I think being vegetarian/vegan comes naturally to their whole household.

I had to laugh remembering something that I've seen happen more than once. When you work with the same group of people for a long time, they tend to open up about lots of personal things. Occasionally, one of the women will announce she's going on a diet. The rest of us smile and maybe say something like "That's nice. Good luck." As the days pass, she will keep us updated ("I lost another three pounds! I had to buy new smaller clothes!"), and people will respond ("Good for you! You look terrific!"). But then the daily updates eventually stop. And then one day it becomes obvious that the weight has returned, and the people who had been encouraging her are now avoiding eye contact with her. It's all very awkward.

What? You mean you don't say " I see you've piled all the weight back on." 😀

A few years ago, some friends and I were having dinner in a fancy restaurant when one friend said she was going to order the gluten-free option on the menu. We asked her why, and she said that she wanted to eat more "healthy" and she had read that some celebrities were doing it. So she was treating gluten-free as the latest celebrity diet fad. We managed to talk her out of it until she had spoken to her doctor about it.

Gluten free is only healthier if yoy have a problem digesting gluten. Otherwise it makes no difference.
