I’ve been a “lacto/ovo” vegetarian for over 20 years but I don’t think I could go Vegan.

I'd like to imagine that Sophie said "vegan" with air quotes and an eye roll. He attended one vegan festival and suddenly he's vegan!
This brings to mind the scene in Notting Hill where Hugh Grant's date explains that she only eats plants that have died naturally. I can't remember what she called it, and I don't even know if it's a real thing!

I thought there was a rumour years ago that Sophie was a vegan so maybe he is trying it out finally? People change their eating habits all the time.
I really don’t care if he (or she for that matter) is or is not vegan. That’s their personal business and everyone has their own reasons if they want to eat a certain way or not.
I also see where some fans are congratulating him on this. WTF??? I know no one on here is saying that, but I can’t understand where this would make that sort of a difference to a fan. I mean - who cares about whether he is a vegan or vegitarian or Palio or whatever. I mean it is an interesting tidbit but nothing else.
To me it is like caring if he prefers the missionary position or not. Really it is his personal business.
:-))

Lol. That is EXACTLY the same thought I had when I read that bit Milemass. 😀

There’s a lot of animal cruelty involved in the production of food (especially via “factory farming”) so many people believe being vegetarian is a good/more humane choice of diet. I do too, which is why haven’t eaten meat in over 20 years. I’m definitely not evangelical about it but I will admit to being pleased when I read that some famous person or other is a vegetarian. Just as I was really disappointed when I read a few years back that BC said he liked “Fois Gras.”

Oooo, I love “Fois Gras”! But I love all my veggies too! But seriously, I can understand if you felt some private disappointment if you found out that he didn’t subscribe to your personal views on eating, but to actually send out public twitter “congrats” about it? That smacks of too much fan entitlement about something that shouldn’t really be up for public approval or disapproval. It isn’t as if he has become a spokesperson for PETA or some vegan equivalent and he made a public declaration about it. :-))

I live in a very liberal town with rampant, super smug vegans and it’s annoying. They act so holier than thou and make faces if you order animal. They’ll lecture you about your footwear, how they make sugar by bleaching it through animal bones, etc., and yet I notice they’ll smack a mosquito just as fast as any non vegan. In many cases, it’s not about an actual belief structure, it’s just about being better than those other people.
Also, I noticed that Ben was wearing a coat with a leather collar the other day for the Pudsey photo... 😁

I don’t see it as any different than when people Tweet to say they’re happy he supports some charity or other or maybe even the same football team as them. It’s just people saying I think it’s good he’s done this or supports that or whatever. I don’t see any entitlement in it, just people making a comment on a piece of information. I don’t normally get personally offended by what people like to eat but I do have a strong objection to a small number of things including Fois Gras and Veal as their production is extremely cruel. So, yeah I was kind of horrified that BC said he ate Fois Gras.

All but one of my friends are meat eaters and I don’t point at them in restaurants. 😀. I even cook meat for them - ok I buy organic so I know it hasn’t been factory farmed but it’s still meat!!!
