It's the writer's job to decide if the character is autistic or not, and it is wise to avoid this controversy, especially if they aren't experts about it. It's also understandable that real people with autism would like to see themselves positively represented in TV and movies, like any other group. I can see why they feel their traits are being used like props or costumes. Again, I see both sides. I understand the concerns and I think it’s valid to question the play even when I don’t agreed that there’s anything offensive against them as there aren’t anything offensive against gays or sons/daughters or humans in general. It’s just something symbolic about the anxiety of not being a good parent/being a son rebelling against your parents or God/ being discriminated. The frustrating thing is the malice behind this controversy and I’m not talking about the autism community but the ones that began with it and pin it only on BC. It was always about attacking a particular actor. It’s a shame if nowadays, those “accusations” are taken seriously by the community. Also I feel disgusted by people, whoever they are, who post about wanting him dead or fabricate horrible things like he wants to “eugenizer” autistic children. That’s very unhinged for me and I don’t think they are helping any cause. I seriously doubt they are autistic people! They are just awful human being!

I thought those productions - Hamlet and Frankenstein - were always available to be streamed in the UK as part of an educational program. Students could watch online in school with their class. But maybe that was a temporary thing.

That's what I thought too. They wouldn't be so excited about it if it was just the same arrangement that had been going on for some time.
And I know it maybe wishful thinking but I'd like to imagine that the possibility of it opening up to more countries is better than just an outside chance (otherwise they wouldn't have worded their reply in that fashion).

This is such a sad scene in the play! The Creature is so excited that Frankenstein will build him a woman and they’ll go off and live happily ever after.

They’ve made it available outside the UK now, with a subscription. It’s a bit expensive, though - $17.50 each month or $175 a year in Canada.
