BC's dad was even on that season of DA. He had a small part as a judge. Lol. I didn’t know or I forgot it! It was easier to interpret it as him hating not just the series but also the people in it… and the fans! Lol I remember that later when Stevens was being attacked for quitting the series, a fan wrote somewhere that at least (the “evil”?) BC was loyal to Sherlock! Actually, that would had been a good “revenge” for the DA gangs and fans: saying the last series of Sherlock was “atrocious” but by then the “scandal” wasn’t scandal anymore and everybody had forgot about it! Anyway, DA people or at least some of them are still doing movies!

OT but I will post it here because Tietjens is a Tory, a good Tory. Lol.
I just went to Twitter and saw an idiot claiming BC is a Tory! This is not the first time. They were talking about Rob Rinder and his great opinions but apparently problematic friends. He can’t really be a good guy because he is friend of Matt Hancock (guilt by association!) and, that other surely Tory, BC! You always know they are British and extremely prejudiced individual: always obsessed by class! Also pretty privileged themselves because it’s very clear that even when some of the Tory politicians are indeed posh, a lot of the base of the Conservatives are working class people. That’s the saddest part of the Labour Party, they lost their base!
Anyway, BC is a posh artist from a very artistic family, of course he isn’t a Tory! Actually, he is one of the most hated celebrities by the DM and, once, Boris Johnson wrote an article comparing him with Idi Amin and his female fans with his bodyguards! They disliked him so much that they didn’t congratulated last year when he was nominated for an Oscar. They congratulated all British actors (and I think also the Irish ones) but not BC! Lol
BC also called David Cameron “flatulent”. See above for references. 😉

Another post, sorry, but I was thinking how at the time PE was interpreted, in certain quarters, as a very Conservative work based only on Tietjens being a “good Tory” and maybe the out of context quote about BC being discriminated for being posh (or the never said quote as BC claimed. Once directly in an event organized by Radio Times, the magazine that published the interview, which TBF didn’t even said exactly that in the first place! Their reaction was posting a “funny” small piece about how BC accused them of lying and promising him always post his exact words in the future! They didn’t refuted him nor entirely apologized). Surely, that also explains some of the misinterpretation of BC’s politics.
Anyway, I remember The Guardian published an article accusing the book of being pro-Torysm. The Ford Madox Ford Society were furious at it. They clearly didn’t understood the books. It was so simplistic: the hero was a Tory so the books were Conservative! It’s like the kids that want to cancel books like The Catcher in the Rye because Holden Caulfield is rude to people! They ignored that Tietjens clearly has a Christ complex and like in Dostoyevski‘s The Idiot, The Christ figure is considered well, an idiot by the highest classes standards. In the last book, Valentine comes to understand Sylvia’s frustration with him after a few years leaving together! That’s not in the series but clearly the privileged class was hypocritical, cynical and corrupted and the “good Tory” didn’t have a place there so he is exiled with lies and manipulations not just by one single person but by everyone he met. He is just “too descent” or “too idiot” to survive there. It’s crazy but I remember someone from The Guardian being happy with Patrick Melrose because, contrary to PE, BC was now in a series attacking posh people! Of course, PE isn’t so vicious in its attacks like Patrick Melrose (they aren’t Princesses being compared to Pedophiles!) but how the heck you can think it celebres rich people?!
I don’t know. The most Conservative aspect I can think it’s the brilliant scene with the sufragist attacking the Velazquez’s Venus. I love when movies do that: being complex and showing not just the heroics aspects of a positive social movement but also the nasty ones. Stoppard didn’t invented it. It happened! And that's how humans are in real life! But the most bizarre thing, not mentioned in the series, is that the attacker become a fascist years later so it was clear she was an extremist and not a Progressive heroine.
I think nowadays it’s more clear that contrary to DA, created by a real Tory, by the way (nothing bad with that), PE is not a celebration or a nostalgic trip to a fantastic past. It’s very critical to it and I would dare to say that was what bothered to some critics.

They disliked him so much that they didn’t congratulated last year when he was nominated for an Oscar. They congratulated all British actors (and I think also the Irish ones) but not BC! Lol I didn't notice that! LOL! TBF It could be an error! It was the Culture Department, Minister or whatever is called there or the person responsable of it. I saw the tweet because someone not a fan, just a guy, was acussing him of erasing BC because he was critical to the government! Lol I liked that version! Everyone was criticized them for different reasons. I probably saw a "Cieran Hinds is Irish! Not British! Bastard!" so probably they don't read the comments and didn't noticed they "forgot" BC but on the other hand, BC is hyper popular, was the British star with more chances to win Best Actor (they did not forgot Andrew Garfield!) and was the lead in the film with more nominations!!! Lol

I exaggerated with Cieran Hinds! Probably I saw it somewhere else. I guess the Culture Secretary only mentioned her faves! Lol
Anyway, that response with BC's quote was great!
EDITED Who she forgot apart of BC? I think from the actors categories, it was only him, doesn't? I mean Branagh (a Protestant Northern Irish actor) was nominated as director and Riz Ahmed actually won an Oscar for Best Short but if we talk only about nominees for acting, I think she only forgot BC! Lol The name is too long, I guess.

Those people deliberately took his F the politicians “rant” out of context and others were too dumb to understand what he was really saying. He was saying “we don’t need the politicians to help these refugees - we can do it ourselves,” but folks were only too happy to jump on him and misconstrue what he said and why he said it, as usual. So aggravating!
And what hurt me about that was when he got his CBE and that reporter kept nagging him about that quote on one of the happiest days of his life. Even after he explained the context and how it wasn’t unusual to ask for donations from the stage the guy kept after him instead of talking about the honor he’d just been bestowed with. I could tell he was upset about it and that made me so angry for him! I’m sure that reporter didn’t ruin the whole day for him but it was just so ugly and awful.

Yes, Johnson undoubtedly misinterpreted it in a malicious way. He said he wished to be there so he would had screamed him back and maybe even took the stage! I would have liked to see that! You know, people booing Johnson for his anti social behavior!
And that was the future UK Prime Minister saying he wished to invade a prestigious theater stage to shut up an actor! Crazy! Lol
But the worst take was people on Twitter claiming he was calling for the murder of politicians!

Another correction! I just checked Johnson column and he didn't compared BC with Idi Amin but with Muamar Gaddafi! Sorry! And of course, it was Gaddafi who had the female bodyguards. You know, the Cumberbitches, according to Johnson! Lol.
He wouldn't had dared to took the stage, doesn't? I guess he was scared of a female army killing him after BC ordered it with his "Fuck the Politicians!" speech 😉
