Dan gave me Small Island for one of my Xmas presents this year and we finally got a chance to watch it tonight.
It was pretty interesting. BC was very good in it. It was made in 2009 (on the back cover they only mention The Last Enemy as something he was known for). Actually all the cast was good. The writing was a bit weak (I don’t really like when there is a lot of narration in a work like this and this really did have a LOT of it!) and I thought it lacked flow in places but the dynamics of the story was complicated enough to keep me interested. Bernard was a very complex character (with some very despicable traits and attitudes and yet BC could make him so pitiful and give him some more endearing qualities as well).
Of course it was also interesting seeing BC with some colleagues from previous work with him (David Oyelowo and Karl Johnson).
I had seen part of this on Kodi but whoever downloaded it only got about 1/2 way through the first part and never finished the rest so I am really glad to finally had the opportunity to see BC’s complete performance all the way through. A lovely addition to my Cumberbatch DVD collection (my sis gave me the Blue-ray of Sherlock Season 4)!
:-))
