I used to live in the attic of a house during the week (on weekends I travel back home to be with Dan) when I finished off my BA in London ON at UWO. Most of my BA I did over a number of years, through extension courses at night after working a full day, but for my final year I went on sabbatical from my “job” and went full time as a student. That was... such a looooong time ago!!
I had bathroom and kitchen privileges and it was a wonderfully cozy little place (but lonely). But at least I got a lot of work done there!!

I’ve been thinking about this question for TWO days, and I can’t come up with a list of five. It’s just too hard, lol. Way to pose an unanswerable question, Roverpup. 😃👍🏼That said, here are some things about Ben’s performances that I just adore.
1. When he goes full Khan in STiD on the bridge, where he crushes Admiral Marcus’s head like a grape, stomps on poor Carol’s leg and rages magnificently. I love it when he goes big. He commits so fully that ya just gotta say, yeah. 😍
2. I love the quiet, subtle emotional morphs he does, like Alan Turing watching Joan dance and being so happy, and then his face just changes imperceptibly to worry and sadness. Or in Dr. Strange when Tilda is showing him magic for the first time, and he goes from excitement and wonder to doubt at his own abilities and frustration with his hands. Or, there was one in the Patrick Melrose trailer where he’s talking to Blythe Danner and his face just falls. He’s soooooo good at doing that, wordlessly. I never get tired of watching his face.
3. There are so many delicious scenes in Sherlock that I don’t know where to begin, but one of my favorites is the reunion scene in the restaurant. Sherlock is trying to bluff his way through this horrible, awkward situation he’s created and John’s not giving him an inch. It’s also some of Martin’s best acting, imo. Rips my heart out every time.
4. So many lovely scenes in Parades End, but I agree about him describing the bombings as one of the best. The way he forms those words is just perfection.
5. I also like Third Star, and how he managed to make this fairly unlikeable guy into someone you really felt for. His portrayal of pain is just so good. How he inhabits that I don’t know, but man, he’s good at it.
6. His voice work. I love Spellbound, of course Cabin Pressure (one of his best roles, absolutely), and Ode to a Nightengale, which I often play before I go to sleep, just to have his voice rumbling in my head as I fall asleep.
It’s so hard to just pick a few! I love how he gives his all to everything he does, and really has a connection and empathy for all his characters. He’s so brilliant. 😍😍😍

You mentioned some pretty good scenes QZ and once again I find myself being reminded of one of most favourite films of BC’s that I forgot about when doing my list! Third Star!! I cry buckets everytime I watch this one! James was such a complicated puppy! He was so insufferable at times and then (in a blink of an eye) he would turn into a person who you just wanted to hug! That scene around the campfire when he presents his plan to his friends and they turn him down, was so powerful. When he says “OK, OK, It was too much to ask.” he is so heartbroken. And I love his impassioned speech just before that when he talks about feeling the salt water in his lungs and struggling as the sea takes him. Devastating stuff!
And BC makes you feel every emotion with him. He just draws you in to James’ world and James’ pain.

I find Third Star so beautiful. I like the way it builds, they start out having fun and being goofy, and then as things change and they start sloughing off their emotional barriers all this gorgeous love and frustration and anger flows out. So human! I also like the way the sea seems to be calling to him and keeping him going towards death, like the very cells in his body have to merge with the ocean, from which we all emerged millions of years ago. It’s like going home.
I forgot to mention Wreckers. I find that even harder to watch than Third Star. And I can never decide if his character really is a psycho murderer, or just an abused, lost boy trying to get through his pain by lying to everyone.
