Of course it is speculation at this point (the series hasn’t even been aired yet) but I don’t think there can be any doubt that Showtime isn’t interested in winning Emmys, can there? They seem to be very interested in their shows garnering awards (like any other media company would be).
Emmys mean prestige (within the TV milieu) and they want to have some bragging rights that they are showing quality, award-winning programmes, I would think. Isn’t the end of May a time when competing “networks” are vying for the most eyeballs (on the “free” commercial stations it is filled with end of the season “sweeps” cliff-hangers and such, if I recall correctly). The positioning of this series seems strategic to me, so I would say they are probably hoping for some “hardware”. At least it is better than what happened to BC’s RIII in The Hollow Crown... still bitter (sorry!).
Who knows maybe BC will also be at the Emmys because of TCiT (which will also be eligible too, right?). I think it is something that should be acknowledged as being a high quality piece of work as well. And I think it got short shrift by very poor marketing tweets on the part of the BBC when it was broadcast. Here’s hoping it is given a second chance on PBS!

I have seen a lot of movie award campaigns but like a lot of people didn’t care too much for TV series until Golden Age televisión in the 2000’s! Much less for awards!

May used to be a big sweeps month on network TV, but I don't know if that's still the case or not. TV has changed so much!

That’s probably true. I haven’t seen regular commercial TV for some time now so I am probably a dinosaur in that regard. My last memories of watching commercial TV go back to the days when sweeps and ratings were “King”! LOL!
But I still think outfits like Showtime care about awards and want to be associated with programmes that are award “worthy” or garner praise and prizes. If any show got an Emmy I think it would be front and centre in any further marketing (like on the DVDs etc.). I am sure Showtime would be pleased as punch if Patrick Melrose was called out for a nomination or a win at the Emmys.
And some people who care about certain actors do tend to keep track of how many Emmy noms, Oscar noms, Emmy wins, Oscar wins etc. they have.

Also it’s notable that Guerrilla, the other recent Showtime-Sky production, was released first in the UK and 3 days later in the USA. Probably it was also because the Emmys. It was released in April and I guess slightly later was slightly better for Showtime but still the USA has the primacy with Patrick Melrose.
Also they will simulcasting it to te UK as they did with Twin Peaks! (So it’s not exactly the primacy but it’s not a comfortable hour so clearly it will be Americans who will have a better opportunity to watch it first)

Love the visuals (and BC looks gorgeous and troubled) and the style (with the abrupt titles) of the whole teaser, but I don’t like their choice of music. I don’t know what i would replace it with but there must be something better. I do heartily approve that they have gone with putting him right in your face - up close!!! He can telegraph so much with his eyes and even subtle facial expressions.

I liked the music. He looks very posh in that suit and with that cup but the music, whisky and cigar suggest something more savage than you typically posh UK drama (but there are not references to the heavy drugs central to the story. Maybe in another ad?). His expressions are full of pain, too. So I guess it’s a fair representation of the plot.
